Help any way to set a button besides the top power button to unlock phone?

Is there a way to set a different button to turn the screen on to unlock the phone? An app or anywhere in settings? I hate touching the top button to turn on screen.

What would be ideal is hitting a pattern on the bottom 4 buttons and then it unlock even without the swipe. Say my code is like hitting search twice then menu once then home once and the phone comes on. No swipe necessary.

Not exactly what I am looking for. I am trying to avoid using the power button on the top of the phone. That app still makes you press the top button to get phone on.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

No, download No Lock, then you'll find that the volume rocker wakes the phone. Note, after downloading no lock you have to open it and select to not have phone locked. Then send to sleep with power button and give the volume rocker a try, it works.
 
on the incredible, you use to be able to touch one of the buttons on the bottom of the phone to wake it up; I wish someone would "mod" no lock so it would do that, or, come out with an app that would let you wake up the phone by touching the screen or one of the bottom buttons
 
I use an app called screenmodewidget because I do not want to go through the unlock routine everytime the screen times out. The volume rocker up or down will turn the screen back on.
 
Speaking of the 4 icons on the bottom, are these supposed to be backlit or is there a setting for this?

I thought at one time I had seen these backlit but it may have been on the incredible.
 
It's not working with my evo, I installed it choose to lock, sleep with lock button, try volume switch and nothing.

Depends on the light sensor. Mine dont light up at all if the phone is charging when i turn it on.
 
I use no lock app as well but I miss the clouds floating around (windshield wiper during rain) after unlocking the screen.
 
i would love to develop an app that used the 4 bottom buttons as a key pad (like on a car) that when interring a combination (like say, search, search, menu, home) then the phone would unlock (and keep the floating clouds/wiper during rain/etc.)

too bad I have no idea how to develop an app!
 
You guys that are looking for a different button to turn on the screen should try lockbot pro from the market. It is a paid app but not only will it allow you to change your lockscreen to any of the lockscreens available on every version of android but it will let you use your volume button to turn on the screen. I am using it now with the nexus one lock screen which is way better than the stock lock we have on our evo's now.

What Droidone said. It's a cool app being able to completely customize a lock screen, and I also just happened to realize the other day that hitting the volume rocker turns on the screen.
 
Is is at all possible to make an app that allows you to use one of the touch sensitive buttons at the bottom to wake the phone?
 
Lockbot pro is awesome. I've been looking for something that allows you to set a timeout and use a password instead of a pattern. Thanks.

I don't think that is possible yet. I really don't want that because I don't want it turning on in my pocket. The buttons are not capacitive and will cause the phone to turn on in your pocket.

To test this, put your hand in your shirt and try to hit those buttons through the shirt. They will react to the touch. Try the same thing with a icon on your screen and you will notice it will not register touch unless pressure is applied.

But the power button is still being used with NO LOCK. So this app does not help in not using the power button at all.
