i have used kies to try and install music to my phone but after it done about 6gb of music it just locked up .

is there anyway i can just connect phone to pc and manually drag and drop files to the external sd card ?

i dont want music stored on the phone memory !

and airdroid takes to long .

thanks

I plug mine into my pc with the supplied cable and says "connected as an installer" across the status bar at the top of the phone.

Swipe down on the status bar and you can click on "Connected as an installer" and switch to "Connected as a media device" or just wait a few seconds and mine switches to that status automatically.

Once it has switched, you can view the internal and external cards. I haven't tried copying anything yet but that's how my Droid did it and it always worked.

Maybe???

Exactly this.

I seriously don't understand why so many people have problems with this.

I do have to either have to connect to my Windows Guest though, or nothing at all. It just doesn't work on linux.

I use SFTP now mostly anyway.

uninstalled kies , got a older version of the usb drivers 1.4.6.0. and just connected it up .

pc saw it as a media player and i copied everything across to the ext sd card

the only problem i had (for op) is that kies crashed when i attempted to do it through that .

and you don't need me to tell you how poor kies is as a piece of software .

all sorted now .

thanks dan

The HTC one is terrible. And blackberry. I think Nokia from yesteryear was the only good one

Same as others, I just connect with the cable and I think there's some drop down menu that let's you choose how to recognize the phone, then I just drag and drop.

if ure using a memory card just take it out put it in a card reader and copy the songs easiest way. If you are rooted u can install an app that lets u use ure external sd card in mass storage mode. Kies is horrible it does not work with my s3 either. My pc(win 8) refuses to detect my phone. if u happen to use winamp on ure pc they have a sync option that lets u sync the songs to ure phone via wifi. Works quite well u need to have the winamp app installed on ure phone also.

i keep seeing people post stuff like this and they are missing the point COMPLETELY! most of us that have THOUSANDS of MP3s that we want to send to our phones can't just drag and drop when we have them organized in to folders by artist then by album especially when we don't want to sync our entire collection! programs like media monkey and double twist no longer sync now that we don't have mass storage mode... nobody can find a program that will work properly now! these questions are being posted again and again because people have a LEGITIMATE gripe! this is something that we used to be able to do as a MAJOR function of a device made to replace the ipod or other portable MP3 player but now we can't because of a change in the OS. this is something that an apple device now does MUCH better! i just upgraded my droidX and it seems like i have LOST functionality and that is INSANE considering that i had that X over 2 years!

NO! it is not easy to have to shut down, take the phone out of the case, pop back cover off, take out card, put card in reader, plug in, drag/drop music then have to put it all back together again.... waaay too many steps involved when we used to just be able to manage music with programs like double twist or media monkey when we could mount the drive as mass storage!

i'm not sure if somebody will come up with a solution or not but i HATE the fact that i need to take my phone all apart every time i want to sync my music and know it was done 100% correctly and i know there are a lot of other people that agree with me.

Have a look at my post i have given about 3 solutions. how often do u actually sync music to ure phone? Open it once copy all the songs over if u need to copy more you could try using software's like airdroid or kiesair and transfer files over wifi to your phone.

those options do not give the functionality that we had before. i sync often enough to make it a real pain to take my phone apart but that is the way i have to do it in order to manage my collection in one app and have it sync properly... kiesair is not a solution because it does not auto manage files on the phone. wifi sync via apps such as winamp and double twist has never been reliable. i have worked with winamp wifi sync for countless hours and i have had SEVERAL times where the file transfer just bugs out and goes in to lala land just as many other people report. root is NOT an option for me.

maybe you don't understand the fact that because i don't keep my entire collection of MP3s on my phone it makes it a nightmare to manually copy and keep track of what is there and what isn't..what needs to be added and what needs to be removed.. it needs to be done with a database via media monkey or the like. unfortunately none of these apps work with MTP mode.
