Anybody completely stripped down a sensation?

Hello,

From other threads I've posted you will see I have a problem with the capacative button lights at the bottom of the phone always being on. I've tried several roms, kernels, apps and tweaks and none of them seem turn off the lights on my phone. I love the set up I have so much (AOKP JB, stock kernel, Apex launcher) that I want to stay with the phone but the battery life is a crippler - less than 12 hours of 'typical' use.

I'm thinking of doing a full strip down of the phone and seeing if I can in some way disconnect the capacative lights in a way which will hopefully not affect the functionality ... though from the rom I can add a soft button navigation bar so if the proper ones don't work again it's not a drama.

All the stripdowns of the phone on youtube show how to replace the screen but never go far enough to show me what I want to see.

Anybody here ever completely stripped one down????

Bye for now.

Phil

Hi EP. Tks for the reply. One of the videos in your posting certainly gave me a view of the capacative buttons inside the case. It looks like they are very well connected to the main ribbon cable which could mean they are difficult to disconnect.

I do leave gps off unless I need it .... which isn't that often ... but unfortunately when I do it is often when I'm away from home and wanting to use the phone more than normal.

I'll keep looking for an answer and stay using my rooted phone and sell my uk vodafone one.

Bye

Sorry, not GPS, Location Access. Settings -> Location Access -> Access to My Location (Off).

There are some Sensation 4G videos on that site too, they might be able to give you a little more info on how to things apart successfully. I'll have a look elsewhere as I'm pretty positive I've seen a complete tear down somewhere (I think it was an official HTC training vid too). :)

Aha, tks EP, got it .... and have turned it off!! If only I could turn off those darn capacative button lights so easily!

Phil

Hi El P,

Well that is definitely one I've not seen. Tks for all your help.

I'm not sure what an APK file is or how I would make it work and as I'm just off out to the pub for the evening I'll have to look at it tomorrow.

Bye for now.

Ahaa ... easy! I went for the QR Code link, scanned it, saved the file and installed it as an app. I ran it and set the lights to 'off' but nothing happened so I shut the phone down and took the battery out for a few minutes put it back in and unfortunately, like other similar apps/fixes it doesn't seem to work. It does seem like a hardware problem which I might just have to live with.

12 hours of typical use sounds pretty decent to me. im lucky to get about half that with LOTS of screen on time, and 2-3 hours of BT phone calls.

a couple other tips:
-run AOSP roms
-minimize all syncs (email, google, facebook, any other apps that check and update things)
-tone down screen brightness

also may make sure whatever rom youre runing, when it sleeps the screen is going off,and not just turning into a black screen,if that makes sense.

FWIW,my softkey lights turn on and off when toggling the brigtness settings with the android power control widget... but i assume in your case, this has no effect, even turning the screen all the way down?

Hello EP and Scotty.

EP. Yup, have tried different kernels ... currently running the stock kernel.

Scotty. OK,tks for those tips. I'll check them out ... though don't fancy flashing to a new ROM now that I've got my phone running so sweetly on AOKP/JB.

Bye for now.

Phil.

Ooops, see this has been moved.

OK ... been casting round and I see there is an update to AOKP_Pyramid from the 17 Aug version to 23rd October version. The 23rd Oct version says it is unofficial. Does anybody know if I can just install that over the Aug 17 version (which doesn't say unofficial) or do I need to do a wipe and start with an unofficial one??

sometimes it works out to "dirty flash" sometimes not. just make sure you make a backup, and be prepaired to go back and do a full wipe if you have any issues.
Hello,

I've just seen this rom ... and seen the term Project Butter!!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31359676#post31359676

I've downloaded it and the latest gapps file and will flash them later today ..... much as I love my current set up this Project Butter just has to be tried ... and it might even cure the capacative light issue that I have on my phone.

Phil

try a bunch of roms! thats the beauty of making backups- you can pick up where you left off with this rom whenever you want, just wipe and restore :D

Hello,

Tks for the replies. In the end I did a wipe and installed the JB/Project Butter ROM and I have to say, without doubt, it is the best ROM I have flashed. I often think that with a new ROM ... but no doubt that this one is brill. I'm not even bothering with APEX launcher, just using the launcher it comes with.

It hasn't sorted the light problem out but everything else is brilliant. Camera works properly first time, battery life does seem better and it moves between screens like greased (butter!!) lightning!!

That's it, my stock HTC Sensation can be sold now.
