Cool trick I'd read. At the beginning when you pick one to start with.. walk away till they reappear. Rinse repeat 4 times and then pikachu will be an option. :)
 
Totally not worth walking that far for a 10CP Pikachu, though... Starter Pokemon will always suck... It's take hundreds of thousands of Stardust to power it up... But it was fun for a minute to gloat to my friends about it...lol
