Help Anyone else gets 'There was a problem parsing the package'?

I just realize that as long as i am installing an apk not downloaded straight away from the built-in Play market my phone will give this error message. The unknown source option has already been ticked on and phone is rebooted several times it still does the same all the time.

Very interesting that any topic about this from internet saying the message should be "There is a problem parsing the package". But our Moto G says "There WAS a problem parsing the package". So I would guess this might be specified to this G-phone?

Just for curiosity, when i used Samsung galaxy before, i didn't know since when, there would be an option prompted for a choice of one of two installers to use. In that case either one will install the apks without any problem. Since this is a Google phone, running pure Android, there yet been any option like that for me to choose. I am not an expert I just wonder does this have anything to do with the non-Play-market downloaded apks? Do I need to install any installer from the Play market before that I can install any apk that downloaded anywhere else? Have tried a few of them, still the same error. Where to go now?

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

1. install google drive on the phone, for Moto G you dont have to do it as it's builtin.
2. upload your apks to the google, either through PC or mobile client.
3. install the apks from google drive.
4. enjoy!

A bit long way and waste of internet traffic to do it, but it works!

Hey Benjamin,

In other forums they say that a reset helps.
You should be able to download apks without any additional software when the unknown source option is ticked.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Nicole, my problem is i have ticked the unknown source option, just factory reset my phone again, still the same error while trying to install already downloaded apks. Any further suggestion please?

Could you try to install Google Drive and then upload it to there?

Once done, click on the file (in Google Drive) and it will donwload it for you and hopefully install.

OMG this is soooooo sweet. yes whatever i upload to the Google drive and install from there, the Moto G doesn't complain at all. Maybe we should keep as secret as our members only, i dont like Google to read this thread.

Did you find the answer to the parse error. I have the same issue on Moto g phone. Moto tech support has no idea what the problem is. Level 2 is lost so they are passing it to level 3.

It happens with all apk not just AMAZON. I have tried different installers no luck.

I tried the check mark removed the additional security. Still does not work. I did a soft reset. Hold both keys down release.. select recovery..still did not work.

Regarding :There was a problem parsing the package" issue.
I called Moto Tech support. Open 7 days 1-800-734-5870.
Talked with level 1 they were clueless. Level 2 got into my phone and tried a few things.. they to were clueless. The pushed it to level 3 I am waiting to hear from them.

What would really help the cause is everyone that reads this message to contract Motorola Support.

Tell them you also have this problem. The more that does the quicker we will get a solution.

If you do plan to have all you information available. They will need it.

It's fixed with KK....

But,if you are rooted, and still at 4.3, there are two solutions/workarounds.....

Copy/move the apk to /

[Your system root, any directory or just /]

The apk will install.

or, use ES File Manager, allow root installer option in fast access.....

then go to Settings/App Manager/Root enhancement.....

check "(un)install apk automatically"......

Then use ES to install downloaded apk's.

Hope this helps, although you do need to be rooted 😑

I know this is old, sorry! The Google drive fix used to work but now whenever I upload an APK file from the computer, the google drive on phone doesn't see it. So weird?? Any idea why?
