Root Anyone else have trouble with tethering?

I'm running this phone on stock with root and whenever I start up the wifi tether app, verizon's mobile hotspot starts up and I can't use my phone to connect to anything. Was there something you guys had to do to get it to work?

Tethering on Verizon Wireless requires a monthly payment. This is part of Verizon's terms of service. It sounds like you are attempting to use a third party tethering app to bypass Verizon's service. If so I feel compelled to comment that attempts to circumvent Verizon's service is a violation of their policy... and something that we are not allowed to discuss here at Android Forums. Sorry!

Sorry, had no idea.
Is this a new rule? Whenever I google searched tethering problems, threads from these forums would come up.

The issue of tethering is a very slippery slope. Some carriers allow tethering while others don't. In the case of Verizon Wireless they require that tethering take place through their paid service. To install a tethering app on a Verizon device to bypass Verizon's paid service could, per our site owner, be seen by the carrier as theft. As such it potentially becomes a potential legal issue for the site. If we condone these discussions, does Android Forums therefore implicitly support illegal tethering on the Verizon network?

While Android Forums does not want to restrict our members from discussing the Android operating system in all of it's glory, we also don't want to place our site (and it's owner) at legal risk if a heavy-handed carrier were to decide to start filing law suits. Know what I mean? There's just not an easy answer to this...

Please.....they don't want us rooting the phone either....so why allow the root forum?

That being said, I can see the need to take these kinds of topics off line via email or pm as to not give up our secrets to big red...

Because rooting is, at worst, a violation of the carriers TOS. Bypassing the carriers tethering is, in the opinion of certain wireless carriers, theft of service. And unless someone wants to invest untold thousands of dollars in legal fees to "debate" the matter with the carriers, it's simply prudent to not rock the boat.

Im not following this logic... root tethering apps were out way before Verizon had the so called "service" that every rooted phone was capable of...If thats the case than rooting is the problem,because rooting allows us to use unauthorized unapproved software,use tethering apps,and block ads,and remove apps that are supposed to be unremovable(advertisers paid for unremovable apps),so were stealing from them too...by getting around the ads that support the device....so I guess were all criminals if we root our phone and do any of the above....FWIW I am tethering fine on the Razr,just go on youtube,and put in Droid bionic/Razr tether ....Pretty sad when Google/You tube will allow a video on the proceedure,and this site wont allow a civilized discussion....everyones so afraid today ,I miss the days of freedom...

Sounds like a fair case to make. Unfortunately, we don't name the rules, we just enforce them. If you want to make that case, feel free to post it in the Site Feedback and suggestion forum.

The site is individually owned and the man who owns it pays all the bills (servers, bandwidth, etc...). The gentleman we owns it kindly invites each of us to post here. Just as if he were to invite you into his home, he can (and does) have rules about what is allowed to be discussed in his "house."

As stated above, the owners views are clear. Unfortunately, if we want to discuss items that the owner doesn't permit on the site that he owns and pays for we have to go somewhere else to do so.
