Help Anyone else having 3G problems?

3G is a non-entity on my Triumph. It shows the 3G icon, but webpages WILL NOT LOAD. Wifi works just fine. Any ideas? Tried toggling airplane mode and rebooting; neither worked.

Airplane mode would have been my suggestion as I had to do that daily with my intercept. Even when I'm in 1x my websites load just fine.. so your other data stuff doesn't work either? Like twitter or facebook? Is it on some weird data off setting?

Facebook says that the connection has timed out. So that leads me to believe that maybe Sprint's network is just being atrociously bad in my area now...? On the 3G icon, the upload arrow flashes, but not the download arrow... Tried toggling the Mobile Data option; no dice. Tried rebooting while Airplane mode was active; that didn't work either.

are you within the 4 hour activation window? It took me a good 3 hours after I activated for my date to start working

Yes to the issues - same same exact ones I was having with Optimus earlier this week. :) I think VM's doing major config on many towers, including the ones here in south Georgia - that's the impression I got from the reps. Make sure to complain about this everyone - if enough people call in, then more things get done to fix known issues.

works just as crappily as the OV... high latency and 56k dialup speeds...

Yea. I went traveling with the Triumph and had weird results. I'm not sure what dictates that 3G icon. I was in some areas and it showed full service of 3G but web wouldn't load at all. I was in other places with 2 bars of 3G and it was fine. Virgin has to fine tune their service if they're going more "high end" (I think they will improve in the next few quarters)

I think that melissapugs is right as when I ran open signal the other day to graph out signal strength as I wandered about the yard I noted that I was once again connecting to a tower due N of my location rather than one to the ESE of my location as I had been doing when I first got the phone and up to sometime early in the week(Mon/Tue/early Wed I'd guess).

My signal's a bit better connecting to that tower, data is still as crap as ever though...

Yup- same for me. 3G icon is on at times with no actual connection to the net - then all of a sudden back in business. They're probably struggling to accomodate surge in traffic from recent activations - I think I read about a large number of V activations due to the leak about plan costs increasing, much less Triumph purchases. Let's all continue to report outages to VM and hope the situation improves.

My intercept had that issue...and I've had it twice with the T. I have had to put it in airplane mode then back to normal and it seems to reconnect just fine. Annoying, but yeah. I'm with you guys, guess it's a VM issue.

Anyone switch from an optimus v and want to sell it for $50? Plus I'll pay shipping.
Gee how generous of you! And here I was thinking of putting it up for $120, but have since decided to keep it for now as a backup in case something should go wrong with my shiny MT...

Go to the activate application and redo the process... you will see the 1..2...3.. process. Now when it saids RESTART to use your phone. DO NOT TURN IT OFF. Hit the home screen and go the the web browser and wait for it to restart by itself. You must WAIT for it to turn off and turn BACK ON "BY ITSELF"

Your welcome.

Try this *#*#info#*#* go into it press on phone information scroll down where there be an option to change the network type now change it to evdo only or cdma auto prl

Which should it be? Mine is on cdma Auto.

I've tried changing PRLs to 1115 and 1120 and when I see 3g icon, I am still lucky to get under 1000ms latency and better than 64k Download. I do get 300-500kps uploads though. Big whoop.

I'm getting no 3G signal at all. I have an escalation ticket open with the engineering department, but who knows what will come of that...

Are there separate radios for the voice/text signal and the 1x/3G data connection? I may have faulty hardware, since I can't get the "Activate" app to get past step 3, kicking me out with an error every time.

I've poked around the *#*#INFO#*#* menu, but I don't know enough about Sprint/VM's CDMA network to adjust anything.

I'm not sure if there are different radio's but even if you have no 3g or 1x you can still get texts and calls 3g is for data so web and mms. And you can activate your phone by hooking it up to a wifi source if you access to wifi... If not most McDonald's have free wifi... I couldn't tell you if you are just in a bad service area or you have a problem with the radio....

Right, my MT works for calls and texting, but all data is out the window. The activate app won't work for me on or off wifi, so that's another source of frustration for me.

I upgraded from an Optimus V, so I know that my service area has a good signal and 3G available. Even if 3G wasn't available, it would fall back to 1x mode, but doesn't connect to that either.

The only problem I have had is when I'm on 3G and I go to use my data connection it switches to 1X connection and it gets really slow, and then when I stop using data it goes back to 3G. It seems to be during the afternoon, so there is just a lot of traffic and maybe they sacrifice virgin mobiles traffic in favor of sprint or something.

I got mine into a useable state last night. I found in another post - either on here or maybe another android site - to go into /system/build.prop and add the following line:

ro.product.rat=EvDo only

I put it at the end of the other ro.product...lines.

So far I always have 3g whereas before it would constantly go to 1x and SUCK. This morning I fired up Pandora and listened with no skips or pauses all the way to the office. A 12 mile trip. Yesterday on the entire drive I heard about 2 minutes total of music and the rest of the time Pandora was buffering.

I used the speedtest app and test 3 different prl files and before I did the line, I was getting latency from 600ms to 990ms and dl speeds of 22kbs to 120kbs. After I put that line in, I switched back to the VM PRL and get pretty steady 500-600kbs. I wish I could get 1mb, but I will take it for now. At least I can listen to Pandora!

Thanks. That fixed my 3G connectivity problem on my (new) Triumph, for now anyway.

My phone is doing great today, was having some trouble with picture messaging crashing after flashing the newest MIUI version. Went back to stock nandroid and redid activate thinking that would fix it. I can now send them again but don't seem to be able to get them. Anybody else having trouble with picture messaging? just wondering if it is a virgin issue.

Are you using a 3rd party messenger? 3g (not wifi) is enabled?

Tried with the stock mms.apk as well as using gosms (my usual default) and using only 3g. All of these I tried on MIUI and my pure stock backup. Unable to get pictures from either one.

I would say it is possibly a network issue then. If it doesn't get better in a day or so, I would do more digging.
