Phone inside closed case(in pocket or upside down when set down*) =

Alarms and/or Calls: no sounds or blocked completely.

Inside 'open' case seems to alleviate issues.

* when right-side up, after extended use, the cover(& thus its inner magnet) may not make full contact with phone - screen tellingly stays on.

I realize not many of you may be utilizing it - i feel kinda girlish** using it in public.
** or girly-man, as the Guvernator would put it. ;)

I haven't had any problems like what you are describing, assuming you're using the promo ZTE folio. If I use the phone for a while and then place it down, it takes a few minutes for gravity to help the cover fall completely against the screen, but I've never had an issue where the screen stays on. I believe the magnetic switch is simple on/off and doesn't have variable range function, or sensitivity. It either senses a magnetic field or it doesn't. Unless your cover moves slightly up and down by itself at a near precise position, it's not going to keep waking your phone up.

As for the silence, maybe something in profiles settings? That's odd, my phone rings whether the case is open or closed, in or out of pocket, upsidedown or whichever.
