I'm seriously considering going back to a regular basic phone. I have metro pcs and got my first smartphone about 8 months ago. I don't think I can handle it. I think I have an addiction to the Internet or something. I surf the web while watching tv, eating meals, bathroom, lectures at school, pretty much constantly. I even check it at red lights.

I check it first thing after I wake up and last thing before going to bed.

I'm worried because I'm about to get a degree in an I.T. field and I'm worried it will become a serious problem later on while on the job.

Even if you dumped your smartphone you'd still have to resist the temptation to check online at work. Getting rid of your phone won't help. While internet addiction is not recognized as a discrete disease entity in the DSM-V It is considered a psychiatric disorder that is under consideration. Less exposure can help but it is really hard to stay away from the net when your in the IT field.

Before getting the smart phone I even went a few months with no internet just going to the library once every couple days to get online or I could wait until I got to school.

Personally my online addiction was put down by moving in with my girlfriend. She felt neglected by how much time I spent online, in forums actually, so I stopped. I swear it cost me my Microsoft MVP status but it was worth it. Real life interactions are much more satisfying than virtual ones.
