Anyone got a working link for a task manager?

Not being able to actually shutdown applications sucks. I feel like I'm running a Palm Pilot II. Nothing like having your GPS icon flash on and off occasionally while you watch on helplessly. Good stuff.

So anyone know where I can download a task manager since the "Market" is as bad an institution as many of us thought it would be?

I use "Advanced Task Manager". You should be able to find it in the search on the store...There is also "Advanced Task Killer", but people have claimed it drains battery life...

You do not need to "shut down" apps the Android operating system does it for you. All you have to do, is search a little to undestand that.

Try searching for task manager in the market. Its there, but like I an even developers will tell you, you dont need it.

The market is great. Yeah you have to search for things sometimes, but you have to do that in the app store.

What kabbie says IS true. I still like having ATM. It came in handy the other day when the app developer of an app I had downloaded screwed up (no uninstall option, didn't appear in downloads after downloaded). I simply fired up ATM and clicked uninstall...Worked like a charm...I use it for a few other things as well, but as kabbie said, I don't "kill" apps or tasks very often at all..

This bothered me so I decided to post again.

Are you saying you couldnt shut down the GPS ? Why not ?

Menu-settings-security/locationenable/disable GPS

Or

Find a widget on the market that you can put on your home screen and just click it when you need to turn GPS on and off.

The problem is, I don't want to have to check my phone every five minutes or so to make sure that the GPS isn't being turned on for some reason. Last night the GPS icon was going on and off and for the life of me I couldn't figure out which application was using it. That's not cool.

If I start something that want's to be location aware, then fine; but if I exit it (or try to!) I don't want resources wasted on it. After hours of playing with it, I think it was the (undesired but unremovable) weather.com application that was doing it.

The GPS icon that you see appear is simply the phone updating it's current location. This behavior is in place so that when an application does need to gain access to a GPS location, it doesn't take 5 minutes to get a fix. This isn't necessarily ANY program that you have installed causing this behavior.

As kabbie stated, if this bothers you, you can easily disable GPS entirely by following the steps he provides. I have yet to see an app actually turn the GPS service on when it is turned off in this way, and personally, I don't think it's even possible for an application to do this, otherwise security applications like mobile defense would have this functionality.
