Help Anyone has problem with the fingerprint scanner?

The fingerprint scanner on my HTC 10 (Bolt/Evo) starts showing some issues. It would stop working and comes back to normal after a while then stops again.

Sometimes it disappears completely from the Settings. I've done a lot of searching and it turned out to be a common issue, devices from any brand could encounter this issue. Some people go as far as factory reset or even root their phones to swap the ROM but the problem eventually comes back.

Personally I found that powering the phone off, let it rest for 2 hours or so then powering it on will bring the fingerprint scanner setting back to the menu. But it continues to stop and start after a while.

I would like to hear your opinion on the matter, especially from those who encountered it.

My lg v20 fingerprint detection has worked flawlessly for over two years. No issues ever. Surprisingly?

Never encountered or heard of this. Disappearing from settings sounds very weird.

You won't believe if I tell you that the fingerprint scanner was originally at the root of the Settings list. After I wiped the cache partition, the fingerprint scanner option reappears, but inside the Security tab this time.

I'm running stock Nougat 7.0 with latest HTC Sense launcher.

I'd have expected it to be in the security section (on general principles - I think that's also where it is on my wife's 10, but it's been a while since I looked at her settings). Of course an update can move it, but I'd not expect a reset to make any difference (because that doesn't affect the system software). So it's definitely weird.

This HTC 10 is my first phone with a fingerprint scanner so I can't be mistaken, during the past 2 years the fingerprint option was right in the Settings list, not Settings > Security.

I have done a couple of factory reset and tried some different launchers, and with the recent fingerprint scanner glitches I think the system might have dynamically moved that option inside the Security tab.

A bit weird but nothing is impossible with an Android.

I found this photo on the internet, it's exactly what I were talking about, you can see the Fingerprint scanner right after the Personalize option.

Are you sure there hasn't been a system update inbetween? That would seem the most likely reason for it to move.

No, things just started to change last week after a factory reset. My phone's Android version is the same since I had it, everything is stock.

No. Fingerprint scanner on my S8+ works fine...opens all my apps that use fingerprint in lieu of a password. Make sure scanner is clean, not smudged or dirty when it reads yr finger. You have to scan yr print in several times until the scanner reaches 100%. After that, you shd have no problem.
