my question is it worth switching. does it help the battery last longer.

my question is it worth switching. does it help the battery last longer.

You likely won't notice an increase in battery life, but some claim the phone is much smoother.

If you're looking for battery savings, my first recommendations would be to turn off location services when not in use, manage screen brightness manually, and connect to WiFi whenever possible

Its still a very beta feature, and can cause problems with app compatibilities and other unknown bugs.

Google hid it in the developer option of the phone because its not ready for prime time yet

Ah I see. When it's prime time and ready, will it be the standard for android?

Thank you all for the replies I'll wait until it's a standard

I was just getting ready to ask this same question.

I don't root and really don't play around much with my phones.

I was also wondering if it would be worth turning on.

I've had mine on for about a week now.
I do notice that the phone's battery does appear to last a little longer as I find I have 70% left when I leave work, whereas before I would have around 60%.
I haven't noticed any other issues with it and have just left it on.

I enabled ART on mine when I read this thread... took a few mins for apps to be converted, but everything works fine as far as I know, tho I'm not a big app hog.

Has anyone experienced any major issues with ART runtime? I'm currently debating whether or not I want to make the switch, since it is under developer options.

It does make things appear to run perceivably smoother, but the initial reboot takes like 10 minutes. I've also noticed that if you dirty flash a new rom while in art mode, it takes a long time to boot back up. Another thing to watch out for is that many apps don't work or are buggy while in art mode.

Well I won't be flashing any ROMs or even rooting anytime soon. But I do have 161 apps installed. So if there are alot of buggy apps knowing my luck most of mine will be.

I noticed a couple of my apps failed using ART so swapped back. Wasn't worth the small amount of battery saved or the slight increase in speed.

Merged similar threads :)

Many of the app incompatibilities are working themselves out as developers put out updates to their apps.

I messed around with ART for a while, but honestly couldn't notice much of a difference. I run the optimized dalvik files from the MotoX though

Remember that this is really beta and mostly for the devs to verify their apps are compatible.

Google has not finished doing any compiler optimizations yet. So we can expect to see much better performance as the final release approaches.

Every time I tried it after rebooting it went back to dalvik

Now I'm on Dirty Unicorns and I don't think it supports ART.

I've never noticed my N5 to be anything other than snappy so not too worried.

Should also be an option for screenshot in DU in the "menu" settings (assuming they've kept the location the same from OMNI)

DU will work with ART as far as I know, but it isn't supported by the devs. I seriously doubt I would notice if it did speed up my N5. I'll just wait for it to become the default rather than experimental. ;)

I've just switched over on DU so I'll report back how it goes re: stability, performance etc.

It still reverted back to dalvik. I don't have exposed installed anymore, I chose ART, the phone rebooted but when I just checked the runtime it's back to dalvik.
