I deleted backup assist a while back, and now the update is failing, i'm trying to find the update file at least on my wifes phone, but not sure where it is stored.

Thanks Finn, I can't read, put it in the right folder rebooted and i'm not seeing it come up in my apps list.

using you file manager copy the apk now back out of sd card one step find system now open and select apps now paste apk there exit reboot and your done this was the original steps to follow as finndo gave ijust expanded them hope i helped you

Thanks Kevin, I went back and reread what Finn said after i made the initial post. Just tried it again, put it in /system/app, rebooted, still doesn't appear to be installing. I'm not seeing it in app drawer, add account, all apps in application settings or TB. Changed the settings to match the rest of the files in the system/app folder and still no joy.

When i uninstalled it i was using TB if that helps any.

Done people have issues getting system apps back on, using any method, I wonder if it is something with the spectrum... Can you try putting it I'm the data/apps fodder, then if it is there after reboot, user titanium to move it to system?

Also do you see the odexed files in system/app? If so you might need that for too. Let me know and I'll get it if you want to try that.

i've got the odex file in the system/app folder. I moved the apk to data/app rebooted twice just to be sure, and i'm not seeing it in TB, but i also only know as much to freeze, backup/restore, and sync to dropbox. Should i maybe put the wife's backup in the TB backup folder and try restoring it that way with the apk in the sata/app folder?

Tools i've got on the phone are Root Explorer, Rom Toolbox Pro, and TB...

Thanks for all the help Finn. i'll be back later this afternoon have appointments to take care of today.

Sorry, I forgot to check this morning, and I am out right now. If you have the v4, v5, or v6 restores, you should be able to pull the files out of the zip (take both .apk and .odex from the same place) put them on your sd card then use the root explorer in ROM tool box to put them in the system/data folder.

Then reboot and let us know (this and the previous method have both worked for me on other phones, maybe once we figure this out we need to make a new post with a guide for restoring system apks!)

Okay looked into the GZ files from my wife's TB backup and could not find the apk or odex files in them.

I took the two files from her phone, put them on my sd card, and moved them to the systems/app folder. added the restore files into the TB folder, rebooted, and hit restore to the uninstalled BA in TB. I let it "restoring app" for 20 minutes before i rebooted the phone.

I've deleted the two files from my phone and re added the two files to system/app rebooted and still nothing.

put both files into data/app and rebooted and nothing.

Wish verizon would put it in the store, it's for the ally only in the store.

I'm using the BaSyncClient since i still have the service installed, wonder if i need to redo both of them?

Ah, if it is in the app store, you might be in luck. You needed to be careful, and make a copy before you make any changes here...

1. Open a root explorer
2. Goto /system
3. Copy build.prop to build.prop.orig
4. Edit build.prop
5. Change the line "ro.product.model= VS920 4G" to "ro.product.model=VS740"
6. Save
7. Reboot
8. Go to the market
9. Search for it
10. Try and install it
11. Make a titanium backup of it

This works with my nook tablet, I have it set as a Xoom so I can put other apps on it. ;-)

Hope it works for you, also hope that is the right model number too... The spectrum has "4G" added, so I hope the ally doesn't have anything else

right model, it let me install the app, but the ally uses v2.1.0 spectrum has 1.0 no joy with update, now i've got a stupid question, should i try defrosting all apps? i didn't on my wifes and it worked fine.

If you have app organizer installed, create a frozen label and uninstall then one by one and add them to the label, titanium can use the labels it creates, so you can batch freeze them again.

Wouldn't hurt anything but your battery life to try.

okay defrosted all the apps, went through and incorporated any updates into ROM, now i've lost the .odex for the sync services in system/app and in TB.

I also tried changing the client file name in data/app to com.lg.vzw.bua.apk and didn't work.

i'm beginning to think i might have to find a stock rom and flash it, run the update then root and put everything back.
