Anyone know a Good temp program?

Hi everyone I am interested in monitoring my computer's temp because it seems at random times it expels quite a lot of heat and even though I got gigantic heat sink and fan still adjusts the RPMs to the point where I can hear it so I was wondering if you might know any good program to monitor temps - I think there are only 3 temp sensors - Video Card, Mobo and Processor.

I have tried speeder fan and that one is totally not worth it because it just does not show the right temperature threshold it shows that my GPU and MOBO are on fire most of the time while when I run them from the bios menu there is no problem and my computer has been running with the current set up for about an year now and I have not fried anything up.

For the graphics card, GPU-Z (freeware) supports both AMD and Nvidia chipsets.

For the others, first check to see if your motherboard manufacturer offers a monitoring utility.

Ironically I've just messed around with this to confirm my suspicions about my girlfriend's randomly shutting down laptop.

I tried CPU-Z, RealTemp and CoreTemp. CoreTemp was the one that worked for me because the logging meant I could look back at the temperature at the point the PC shut down.

Keep an eye on the installer though as it will offer to install loads of "extras" that you probably don't want

Thank you for the suggestions everyone I will try them and I will report on my findings of which one worked for me. I do not really understand the logic behind the speeding of all of the fans once I start playing my silly game. I play team fortress 2 to unwind that is pretty much the only thing I use the windows part of the comp when I use ubuntu there are no problems excluding the video card drivers which are just upsetting because of the way nvidia decided to deploy them but that is another thread all together.

Thanks again.

Ummm, playing a game requires constant data manipulation in order to build the environment around you as you turn your POV to look around, and even more so when you actually move through an environment.

Constant use of a processing unit generates heat - run some stress tests on your CPU and GPU and watch how as the usage rises, the temperature dramatically rises. To prevent overheating the fans are then required to speed up. If you try to stop them from speeding up you're taking chances at burning up (literally) one or more components of your computer. If you try to cover all the holes b/c the fans are too loud you're taking the same chance - you case needs constant airflow through it when you use components constantly.

It's no different than a radiator - go drive your car for 2 minutes at 60 mph, then come to a stop. Listen carefully - within seconds you'll hear your radiator fan kick in b/c there is no constant airflow anymore over the radiator fins to cool off the circulating radiator fluid. If the fluid is not cooled, it cannot cool your engine - a vital component to your car.

I use eVGA's precision utility to make my video cards speed up a lot sooner than the default to help keep my cards cooler. I have my case fans set to run on max speed. My CPU cooler is a liquid self contained cooler, but the fan is set to run at max (although it also has a component to auto regulate itself corresponding to the temperature of the CPU).

All told, this makes for s soft blower-like noise constantly when the computer is running - but it gets noticeably louder whenever I game. Most graphic =-intensive games are going to cause this no matter what.
