Anyone know much about earbuds?

funkylogik

share the love peeps ;)
I have a voucher for an online store i have to use so im limited to a pretty poor choice.
Would these http://androidcentral.com/qmadix-qi-7-stereo-headset-review be a worthy replacement to the (i think pretty good) stock s3 ones? The lack of bass response worries me a bit but i just want an overall improvement over the stock ones.
Ill post more links if i see another set i fancy
Thanks

P.s, i dont care at all about call functionality, just music/video playback and i dont mind losing in-line control functions

Now these seem nice http://www.shopandroid.com/rf3-live-natural-wood-stereo-earbud/11AA8739.htm

Check package/specs for frequency response. Lower first number means a better bass response. Gives you a quantitative comparrison to look at.

Not always about $ either. Other factors play into overall sound. Best is to try them out, but freq response is a good place to start to compare.

thanks man ill defo read that but tbh i dont have many to choose from

Hey funky!
I don't know much about earbuds, but if you want, I can move your thread here:
Android Accessories - Android Forums
for more response if you desire.
If not, no worries, I can leave it here :)
Cheers mate!

Yeah bud, ive never even looked at that forum tbh lol yeah please move it there mate

Tbh tho i did a trial checkout on the site and the voucher code doesnt include ex-US shipping :banghead: so i cant even afford to pay for the shipping of the items i thought i wanted.
And this was a "prize" from a HUGE supposedly international Android community site! (Not Android Forums lol) :)

It really depends what your budget is. The ones you reference look ok, but my main concern would be how they fit. We all have different ears (I know it sounds funny) and to me 'in-ear-phones' are very different from manufacturer to manufacturer, that is to say how they sit in your inner ear. I have always found the majority of them almost fall out of your ears, or at best they stay in but don't make propercontact so the bass and detail you hear is very tinny and as soon as you press them firmly home you get a much different experience. The problem with the latter is that you can't run around with two fingers stuck to your ears.

Therefore, it is crucial that not only is the headset of good build quality but it should also offer a broad variety of different ear buds. I have been using Etymotic Research for some years now and found them to offer the best compromise between quality, fit and price. But there are so many out there you need to really look at the specialist retailers, imho.

Thanks mate, yeah i have like a collection of the rubber tips that ive kept from all sorts of earbuds lol :)
The rubber in-ear buds seem to be perfect for my shape of ear :)
I had a really nice set of Stenheiser but they got stolen :(
If i had the money, id be looking at non-phone earbuds but im pretty skint so its not an option so i have to find the best i can from this one particular store. If none of them will be an improvement over the bundled s3 earbuds though, ill just get a couple more cases instead :)

Possibly and unpopular post but can you try any of these? If they sound good to your ears with the music you play they probably are good for you.

You mention bass response but can say a pair of buds be expected to do the same as a whopping great 18" sub or to. Personally I doubt it.

Probably most enlightening post to me was a guy saying even studios mix to the gear they expect thier listeners to have. I di ask someone I know in the folk music wold and he said he always tries his stuff in his car to make sure the bodhran does not dissappear on tracks.

I'm not saying there's not good and bad gear just that I think your own ears can help you if you get the chance.

So i ended up ordering the rf3 Live Natural Wood ones on a whim purely because they look so different from the Dre's and Skullcandys the trendys are walking around with lol.
Thanks for the replies peeps and ill write a lil review when i get them (could be upto a month lol)

just got my earbuds and im really impressed. The review i read said the bass is quite weak but its surprisingly heavy. Had to adjust my EQ.
theyre really unique. The actual speaker/driver hangs down at your neck then theres a tube kinda like a stethescope that carrys the sound to the wooden ear pieces. They sound like nothing ive heard before. Really nice. maybe not suited so much to electronic music (which i listen to a lot of) and probably better for more organic sounds but they really do thump with like Vitalic or Hardfloor.
One thing they would be bad for is running or excercise because of the driver units swinging around your neck.
Beautiful sound for the price. im pleased with them but im unsure how durable theyll be. I certainly wont be stuffing them in my pocket like i usually do

My own experience of ear-buds is that I can't tell the difference between the expensive, noise-limiting ones my wife bought me (now left at Dubai airport!), and the

Lol nice theory man. And a heavy HOLLOW chamber seems to give the best sound so what does this say about your head? :p:p:beer:

Reviewed Klipsch S4A and lots of others here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-note-2/708384-twister-reviews-note-2-accessories.html

I thought S4A was great until I got a chance to review UE 600vi. Not as heavy on bass as S4A, but right now on amazon for $59 and it's the cleanest mid/high you will get for that price under $100. After of half of a day of breaking them in with white-noise sound (playing in the loop), bass response got better as well. These have one of the best sensitivity spec out of there, so they are loud and clear even at low volume, and no distortion whatsoever at higher levels. Definitely recommend, and for that price getting Ultimate Ears is a steal!
