Anyone receive the OTA update today?

FlyerG

Newbie
I'm asking because I thought that they would have pushed it out this morning but nothing yet, or at least I haven't been notified.

Anyone get it or hear anything about it today?

I haven't gotten it, as of yet. But they did say it would be a staggered rollout, with everyone getting it by the 31st. So it could still be a week before some of us see it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here...

I believe that we should be able to look into settings, about phone, and see the firmware change from 1.0 to something higher, correct?

True, but what T-Mo said is that you will get a notification and it will ask for permission to download. At least that is what I've heard. At any rate it should show in the message center drop down box, or whatever that is called.

nope that will stay at v1.0 but under "build number" you will see:

kila-user 1.0 TC4-RC19 109652

that should change to RC28 if i recall correctly what i read earlier, cust serv said the preorders that arrived oct. 21 should see it first then the rest of us.

newer stock should already have the upgrade, but I doubt we will see any other than the inventory stores had at launch till after the nov 10th "pre-orders" go out, but they should have the update.

AFAIK its 1 fix and "minor enhancments" I don't think much else is know ATM...

But... but I want it now :(

Is there any info on what this update addresses? Has anyone who has received it noticed any differences?

P.S. Is this the update that activates the "Goldeneye" satellite control system?

I read somewhere that it's being called enhancements with most going towards the Amazon MP3. Not sure if this is true.

There is another update coming as well that will have speed enhancements and an update to the browser. This one is straight from Google from what I read at work today since there are a lot of things that it said we didn't know about since it was going to be Google updating it.

Anyway you can elaborate on a date when we will receive this update? Any other information would be really helpful as well. Thanks!

I've gone through many an OTA with various Sidekicks and T-Mobile, so believe me when I tell you the schedules they give are completely inaccurate. Rest assured if there is one, you'll get it eventually. CS will likely tell you you're next in line regardless if you got your device October 21 or yesterday, but the truth is there is no line.

yeah, i pre-ordered my G1 way back.. and received the phone on the 21st... still no update.

I hope the one we get addresses more than just amazon... there are lots of little fixes that need to be made asap.

For those of you asking:

Via TmoNews.

Distribution of the new update (RC28) was stopped on Friday afternoon after Google identified/confirmed a security issue with the browser that allowed for unwanted attacks on users. This security flaw would potentially allow others to install a keystroke recorder within the browser that would give out usernames, passwords, and even credit card numbers that are input in the G1.

In the end, Google decided to rebuild the existing update with a patch that fixes the issue and redistribute it as update RC29. The new update was released yesterday at about 4PM Pacific time, October 27th, which explains why many users did not receive the update this weekend. For those who did manage to get the RC28 update you will be prompted to upgrade to the RC29 update.
