Anyone taking it back tomorrow?

I got my RAZR with the idea of returning it for the Nexus if I liked it better. One thing all the release delays of the Nexus have done is given me time to really like the RAZR. I'll be going by my Verizon store tomorrow to give the Nexus a serious once over, but I'll probably still keep an eye on forums over the next couple of weeks and see how things develop. If nexus users report a lot of issues, or if I'm just not that impressed with a hands on, I think I'll be happy to keep this phone.

For me the only thing that really holds the nexus apart is its being a nexus device and getting prompt upgrades from the source. Also, along with that, I have no doubt that it will end up having a much more robust dev community. I have to say, though, I'm surprised how little hacking I've wanted to do with the RAZR. I had a Fascinate before, and with all the problems that phone had, the dev community was a lifesaver. Got me improved aesthetics and functionality with new ROMs and kernels, improved battery life, improved GPS signal, and really made up for the painfully slow upgrade schedule for that device. But I really like Blur, and am still using stock launcher. I've rooted for Titanium Backup, but aside from that I could really even do fine with the RAZR being totally stock. I do like the idea of being able to fix issues or upgrade with developer ROMs if Moto falls way behind again, though.

So, I'm still pretty on the fence about keeping this or switching to the Nexus. Anybody else have thoughts on that?

I'll be trading it in for the nexus tomorrow. The razr is a good phone, but there are a lot of things I don't like about it. The screen and the camera are my biggest gripes, and they will be better on the nexus. Also, 4g murders the battery so I will be picking up an extended for the nexus tomorrow. However, the razr does a lot of things well, so I can see a lot of people just not feeling the need to switch.

Yeah. The grass is always greener......

Trust me, there will be plenty of issues and gripes with the Nexus just like EVERY other phone that has ever been released. You can't please everyone and never will.

I hope you enjoy it! I am sure that all of us RAZR lovers that have hated everyone bashing our beloved phone for the past month will take great joy in reading all the gripes in the Nexus forum in the weeks to come.:D

Razr rocks, though might check out the D4 if same display tech.

The fanboy fever for the Nexus has been so over the top and obsessive, I would not get one out of principle. Well, the main reason is no sd card slot, but I digress. Seems too cultish IMO.

After picking up the Atrix lapdock for $65 (crazy price for nice device), I will stick with Webtop and Moto. Nice to have the options with lapdock. Much better than expected.

Other devices seem limited now in comparison, including the Nexus.

No offense to the Gnex cult.

Not only NO but HECK NO! I'm happy for the soon-to-be GNex owners but I don't envy them as I suspect they are lining up to be beta testers for Google. Personally I'd rather wait a month or two for a somewhat more stable ICS on the Razr...

Heck no! How would I live with 16GB of memory when I have 48GB now?

No USB Mass Storage? How am I going to put movies or music onto it without WiFi?

If I bought my Razr on 11/11 for $250 how much more am I going to spend on the Nexus? Anybody know?

I like what the Nexus has to offer but i'm not so sure if spending the extra money is worth it since the Razr is pretty close.

It actually comes with 32GB, but after having seen the power of being able to mount/unmount SD Cards on the fly, no way I'd switch to a fixed memory phone.

The battery is mox nix--I can get through a day now on my Razr, and I have an external battery for travel. Those are the two issue that distinguish the phone for me (I don't care much about developer tweaks--as the OP said, this phone is fine out of the box).

Perhaps harsh (in a joking way), but must admit they DO seem like the little green dudes inside the crane machine in Toy Story- all grasping for the Nexus instead of Woody. Woody Woody Woody :)

As far as space for the Nexus and Razr, if you use a 32gb card and consider formatting and actual free storage for user:

Nexus = 27gb (but also used for app and data).
Razr = 38gb (plus ability to swap)

Considering app and data installation displacing space on the Nexus, the delta is about 14gb.

My thoughts too. I count on my phone for a lot of things. I have a hard time believing that apps i count on like slingbox, Skype, golf logix, sportypal will all work great out of the gate for them.

Just ordered the gnex with amazon for $150 as an exchange for my razr. There's no restocking fee or anything like that, although verizon might charge me the $35 activation fee.

In my opinion, going with a stock google phone really is a no brainer if the price between the two phones is comparable. In my case, I'll technically be paying $150 to upgrade from the razr to the gnex since I got my razr for $.01. Yeah there may only be a few months before the razr is upgraded to ics, but what about the next update and the one after that? And who knows how much of the ics features will actually make it into the motorola version. Then there's the possibility of nfc going mainstream. And also, hopefully developers are going to embrace the stock ics look, feel and menu settings so that will be a nice feature on phones with software buttons. On top of all of this, there's all the bloatware on the razr and other phones. Yeah, I know you can only "disable" certain bloatware apps on the gnex but thats better than nothing. I don't want to have to root my phone to remove or freeze bloatware.

There's only two real "dealbreakers" with either the gnex or droid razr. The non removable battery in the razr, and the lack of an sd card in the gnex. If you're not affected by those issues, the the gnex is the phone to go with. A nexus phone is the only phone I would really be happy with for an entire 2 year contract.

I do kind of agree with this. When I had the captivate, the dev community was HUGE. Had to be the largest dev community on android simply because the galaxy s line was so much alike an the US and internationally. I really liked that I was able to improve the gps, remove bloatware, and get gingerbread early due to the dev community. The razr is a pretty good phone out of the box and doesn't need much modding. I'm just thinking ahead to 12 to 18 months from now and trying to think if I would be happy with this phone. I hate having that feeling that my phone is outdated and getting the urge to upgrade.

Be careful with the Nexus if you are not in strong signal areas for 3G/4G and wifi. People in forums are mentioning week reception and so are folks at VZW. Even comparing dBM signal in store shows a big difference.

Could be nothing or could be something, but suggest doing a thorough test. Do not let the Nexxites blind your objectivity :)

Guess I would be a Razrrite, but have reported a few negatives, so would be shunned from the order.

And here comes the third deal breaker. In addition to the fixed memory card or fixed battery issue there is the issue of samsung versus motorola radio quality. I'd really like to see some hard data on the decibel measurements between both phones side by side pulling from the same cell tower to see if my worst fears about samsung are confirmed. Let's not forget boys and girls this is primarily still a phone. Vanilla ICS is worthless if it isn't an ace at connecting.

Also to add another side note: I have owned several Samsung phones in the past and NONE of them could ever keep a connection for the built in navigation app. Constantly lost signal which renders the device almost useless since I use navigation a lot and depend on the phone as my only navigational tool. I have owned sveral Motorola phones as well, including the now RAZR, and not one of them have ever had an issue with losing a data signal while performing navigation. Lose the data signal and novagiation stops! Deal breaker for me for sure.

GPS on the Razr is the best in speed of aquisition and stability, over my previous devices- including the Droid 3. No contest.

maybe if the nexus was not a samsung in disguise....if it was moto or htc I might at least entertain looking at the handset.... I love my razr and it would take a heck of a new phone to make me want to switch...ICS might be great but considering I have not used it, I don't know what I am missing so I can wait a couple months for my razr to get it. I would go to the dark side (Iphone) before I ever got another samsung phone

This decision was already made a month ago, i.e., when I bought my RAZR instead of waiting out for the Nexus.

And no, I haven't changed my mind on my decision.

A very strange post to me.

You are getting a Develeoper's Phone and you do not want to root?

Interesting.

Not only Vanilla ICS, but a phone period is worthless if it isnt an ace at connecting when I want and need it to. Might as well get an iPod, PMP or hand held gaming system. Dont waste the money on a cell phone bill. :D

Seriously...some of us are unlucky to spend most of our time in weak reception areas. One of the biggest reasons I use Motorola phones. My ex GF isnt a techy at all and even she notices how good my Motos have been with reception.

I wanna get a G Nex, this phone might push me tio switch to a family plan...but if the reception isnt up to par....it wouldnt be worth it. If I do switch to a family plan...might get a Bionic or LG Revolution 2. Might save that Family Plan switch for next year when newer phones come out. STILL pissed I missed out on family plan, data promotions recently.

The more I read this, the more I realize i am exactly opposite in opinion. For starters, there are certain Motorola exclusive apps I never knew I NEEDED until I got them on the Razr--like Motocast. I LOVES the Motocast. I could not imagine going back to the stock phone without that feature built in, because it makes so damned much sense.

Plus, I'm also not an update for update's sake guy. Just because there is "newer/better" doesn't mean it is always better or even worth the upgrade. As others in the DX forum are noting, with .605 GB, why in the world would they upgrade to a new phone? I see the same happening here.

So, there will be people who think they are missing something and have to get on the upgrade train (Moto, BTW has done OK in that regard--not fast, but solid), and there are people like me who are okay with their blistering fast and versatile phone pretty much as it is.

On the GNex--did any of those ridiculous social apps bloat make it on board? That, IMO, is the only criminally offensive SW VZW or Moto puts on these devices.

Definitely keeping mine, BUT just saw that it's available in white... would've liked a white one! I'm looking at buying the pink/white incipio case though, looks nice and will give me the white i'm looking for :)
