anyone thinking of getting a 10.1 2014?

Galaxy Tab2 47

Android Enthusiast
Anyone thinking about getting a new 10.1 2014 tablet really much improved over the older 10.1 Note? Is the new processor really adding to the use of the tablet, over the older 10.1 Note. does the screen really look a lot better then the older 10.1 Note? How about the batter life, anyone notice any changes in their battery life? If I have missed anything please add it.:)

Thank you for the reply and also the link of the review.:)

No problem. I think I am going to get one. I have the 1st version and thought about a Surface 2, but few apps available, so I am just waiting for the LTE version to come down in price a bit more and it will be mine. A nice Christmas gift it will be :)

i am also thinking of getting the WiFi only Ver. of the new 10.1 2014. My older 10.1 Note has been a great tablet, i also have both an iPad2&4 WiFi only both have worked very well but not having the Micro Memory card slot as the Samsungs have and Apples heavy handed way of keeping their control over us iPad users, i lean towards the Samsung products. I just changed from an Apple iPhone to a new Samsung S III, and could not be happer.:) I will be watching what others have to say as they start using the 2014s and will look for maybe a drop in their price.

I'm in a very similar situation. I have the Note 10.1 and bought it in August knowing that I would upgrade to the newer one. Also have an iPad 2 and buying the iPad Air. The iPads are for family members, but the Note 10.1 2014 will be for me.

I'm actually looking at the Surface Pro 2 as being my upgrade from the Note 10.1. Pricey, but will be worth it for me.

Possibly better to choose the surface...

Im not going to upgrade my Note 10.1 (phone ver.) to newer one because...

a) Samsung showed that it is a company you cannot rely. They made their barely year old devices incompatible together: you cannot share your SNote files between devices anymore because the new GN3 and Note 10.1 (2014) have newer version of SNote having new file extension. This means that older phones/tablets cannot open files made by newer devices. We have a project at work and we are sharing SNote files between people in the project. One of us bought GN3, made some changes to a file and now rest of us cannot open it! Great, Samsung managed to spoil their own application to be incompatible!

b) I read that their customer support told that SNote is only meant to use with same device, in a personal use. It is not meant for sharing files between together. Wtf!? Note is marketed for business and schools! So that was a pretty childish excuse, I bet people who have made notes and now trying to share them together appreciate that explanation...

c) When you buy a device from so called premium line, you should be able to trust the company having better support for that line. Especially when it is marketed for business and schools. Samsung just showed that not even their premium line is trustworthy. Not only the devices but their own application too! Note-concept is build around their own application SNote and now they have differend versions of SNote making SNote files imcompatible.

For me Note 10.1 was absolutely the best device: a phone , tablet and SPen in the same package. We used them at work, they were working well and we were investing to buy hundred of them more. But now Samsung made decisions which make this so called premium line only a line of expensive devices and only for personal use and these "premium" devices are useless for a real work.

From my point of view: dont buy a device from Samsung if you want more than 6-12 months cycle!

So now the device is broken because you cannot use files between them even though you do not have the new device and you have not tried?
And can you not export notes to other formats than just SNote and just import them back on the other version, I think you can.
Listen to support people and you will never buy anything as those guys have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER!

To me this sounds like ranting on the basis of one support person's opinion as they have no facts, just opinions.

If you made changes to a SNote file with GN3 and save it, it has a new file extension and older devices cant open the file anymore. Of course you can always use PDF-format, but it is not the same as SNote format which you can modify. Think about word-document shared as .doc with others but in some reason someone needs to share it as a pdf-format. Of course you can always share it even as a jpg, but you cannot do anything with the file anymore. What do I do with the pdf-file if I need to modify it in doc-format? Same thing with SNote files... See the point?

So device is not broken, or devices are not broken. Let say it in clearly: if you are participated in a project where are for example 15 person. One of them bought GN3 and made changes to the SNote file. Now 14 cannot open the file anymore. This is the problem. Samsung own application is worthless now.

Oh, I totally forgot. I have asked this three times myself too. I got an answer, that they do not know if the Note 10.1 gets Android 4.3 (and hence the new SNote). Then I sent another question to a support for business users in USA (tried another market area). I got an answer that their support is now fully occupied and they can't give an answer for my question because in that particular market area (usa) they don't have GT-N8000 model for sale. Oh, you don't have N8000 in USA? Really? Third post I have sent weeks ago, I havent got any answer.

4.3 will come and with it new SNote. The support is useless and could have told you about 8010 or 8020 as they are the same just with 3G, WiFi only or LTE.

I got another answer from their support. They didnt say anything about a new firmware, they only told me that they are working with the SNote problem. It sounded more like they are trying to make SNote version compatible togrther without a new firmware. Well, I hope they also update the firmware too (trim / gear comp. / bt handling / user profiles). Well, we will see it then...

Edit. Another email from their support. New version of SNote is depending on Android 4.3, so this means that files must be shared as pdf format :/ or they are building A4.3 for us.

As much as I want to, I will not be upgrading for now. I just don't have the money for another tablet now, I want to get other things before a new tablet. Right now, my current Note does everything I need it to do for me educational wise. Maybe next school year I will make the upgrade, but it may be to a Surface pro instead of a Note.

Though I am an android and Google fan, I will be taking at some point some programming classes, like C++, and Java, and it will be nice to have my own computer to use in class and out of the class. I just have too many computers, what will I do when I get one computer that can do it all? I may have to sell some computers just to buy a Surface Pro. Well, my Nexus' will have to stay. Don't know so much about my current note and chromebook. chromebook may have to stay.

Check DroidEdit Pro. Im using that application and MS Mobile Wedge Keyboard with an External Keyboard helper pro -app (I need this app because Im using nordic layout and some letters/characters wont work in Android) and of course a mouse too :D I like my Note 10.1 because Im able to do almost anything with it with accessories (a keyboard and mouse). But Im not going to upgrade, because this OLD one is still great.

Are there really good programming apps for android? Comparable to Visual Studio C++?
