I have a friend who has a One X and I want to buy it but I am on T Mobile. Has anyone unlocked a One X and if so how hard was it?

Thanks

Morning :)

I found when unlocking my HTC Desire I just contacted my provider in this case O2 (using their online chat) and asked for the unlock code which they sent to the phone...

Then change the sim over and it will ask you for the code and your good to go....

Is the contract up on his side?

His contract is not up nor has the phone been activated on his account. He bought it online and then found the GSIII for a good price and then bought that one and activated it on his acct. Now he has no use for the One X and wants to sell it to me for the price he paid.

You should be able to get the unlock code from AT&T if it is actually locked. They told me mine was already unlocked and that AT&T don't lock their phones (yeah I don't really buy it either)

I did basically the opposite. Unlocked a T Mobile HTC Sensation (just called TM and they emailed me the code), then tried an AT&T card with it. Everything worked fine except data. I was limited to 2G data since AT&T and TM use difference frequencies for their high speed data and the phone (hardware) wasn't set up for 3G or 4G outside of TM frequencies. So I got an AT&T One X

I suspect you'll run into the same issues, but doesn't hurt to try. If you get any crap from the CS rep, tell them you are going overseas and need to use a local TM sim card when there.

Ok, I'll tell him to call and see if he can get the unlock code from ATT when I see him at work today. So, I'll be limited to 2G speeds and not even be able to get 3G speeds? I figured 4G was out fo the question.

That's what the One X can do:

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100

AT&T:
Voice: 850 (Band 5) / 1,900 (Band 2)
3G: 850 / 1,900
4G: Band 17 (700MHz)/AWS (1,700/2,100 MHz)

T-Mobile:
Voice: 1,900 / AWS
3G: AWS (1,700/2,100 MHz)/PCS (1900)
4G: AWS

Does that help? It certainly looks like your options are limited unfortunately. Could you get a Tmobile micro SIM to test?

You could also go over to Ebay and do a search for Unlock Code and the phone make....

I just unlocked a Nitro HD and a G3 both At&t and the price was great so check prices prior to buying....Some are asking high amounts and some are less.

PS. Unlocking a phone does not void a warranty either...Just and FYI
