Root Anyone updated to 140 yet?

Nevermind. Something bad happened during this whole update process and now the $^@%^#&# phone won't turn back on. I mean, nothing!

Oh well, I got another from the ebay for $40. At least I'll have this one in case I need a digitizer.

Yes, I installed GNM recovery. I think it's the problem, when I go to update it boots into recovery and can't proceed from there and I have to tell it to reboot. Any idea how to install the stock recovery? I haven't been able to find an answer on here.

You can use dd to dump the recovery.img to its partition. It would go like this in a terminal emulator without the quotes "dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8" now I'm not a pro with this phone and mmcblk0p8 is not the commando recovery partition but that's the format for using dd while I'm android. Just find the stock recovery somewhere on here, I might have it I'll look, then copy it to the root of sdcard and open terminal and type "su" then enter, then the dd command once you figure out which block is the recovery partition.

Hmmm, ok... I'm way too new to understand what you mean. I did find this, but the file doesn't seem to be the right one.

Yeah that's definitely not it, I have what you need, I'll share the links once I track em down and I'll try to help out. I'm a Samsung pro, but I'm looking into this update thing since I've rooted and cleaned up my buddy's commando. Shouldn't be too bad, just have to install the stock recovery, and put back any system apps you've removed because chances are this update is a patch and will fail if the apps it's patching or removing aren't there.

I thought about changing dump-recovery.img to recovery-ra-commando-3.06-gnm.img and running GNM's recoveryflash.sh. I read in another thread that renaming it just recovery.img would brick your phone though.

The Commando does not have a stock recovery.

So, I got the ebay phone. It came with m130 on it, so I rooted it and updated it before making any changes. The update succeeded and I retained root! The phone does not have the GNM recovery though, and I am hesitant to attempt it until someone confirms that it will work.

I would assume GNM' recovery will work fine, can't try it myself though so I don't know. My problem is when I go to update to m140, it gets stuck on GNM's recovery. Which is why I need to go back to the stock recovery/remove GNM's recovery.

in superuser, did you check the "ota survival" button?

some notes on the recoveries and the new update.

the commando DOES have a stock recovery, that I extracted for this reason! you can get it here. (will find soon)
you need the stock recovery in order to flash the update. if you want to put the stock recovery back on it, you can modify my rooting guide for this purpose.
when you download everything, replace the recovery.img with the above recovery.img. then follow the instructions up the flashing the recovery, and ignore flashing the boot.img.
then you are all set!

Hey Willster, I had that checked on the phone that is not longer working. I do not have it checked on the one I am on now though. So, if the Commando already has recovery, why do we need to use the GMN recovery?
