App for sending/receiving SMS through computer

Infoseek

Hey guys,

I have a Motorola Droid (original) and I'm looking for an app that will allow me to send and receive text messages on my computer (via USB connection preferred). Some other features that I'd like (in order):

- Imports the contacts from the phone
- groups the text messages from the same recipient.
- when I send an sms through the computer, it shows on my phone as well.
- when I reply from my computer, it takes away the new message notification off of my phone.

I have tried easysms and wasn't satisfied. Quite a few of my contacts and threads were missing from the online web interface. Also, takes too much to setup.

Google voice is too much work as well and I don't want another number.

I have pdanet, but for some reason it's not intercepting text messages. I'm currently trying to download an older version to see if that'll fix the problem.

Any suggestions? I want something simple to use and simple to setup.

Thanks!!

The older version did not work either. I have windows 7 if that information helps.

Again, any help/recommendations would be appreciated.

I use Remote Web Desktop for that, but be warned that it uses your credit. It uses a wireless connection (you should be both on same wifi network), then open the server and go to the address specified by the app on your browser.

Thanks chanchan. I just got done downloading, loading, and testing mightytext and it works beautifully. At least my initials tests indicate that. It does everything I want except taking away the new message notification from my phone, which I can live with...

Again, thanks!

You should definitely try Desk SMS. I've tried it and it works great, and it is by one of the most respected developers in the Android community.

I was using BrowserTexting up until now but now they start charging money and don't think it's worth it. There are many apps on the market that let you see your whole phones screen on the pc but if this will only be used for texting you should give a try apps like "Desk SMS"

If I ever have issues with Mightytext, I'll give DeskSMS a try. But as I said, my initial testing/observations of MT is pretty good.

Again, thanks guys! :)

Hi! I use smslemon and convinced that you'll also be happy with this application.

Hi - May I make a pitch for PhoneLeash (be warned I am the dev :)) PhoneLeash forwards SMS to any email account, and if your phone has an email-to-SMS address (Verizon, ATT, T Mob all do) you can even reply, and the reply goes through the phone.

DeskSMS is pretty good too, but I think its a few bucks every year (which isn't a lot really, but everyone wants apps to be free )
