App for Streaming Media From PC ?

Hi

I have alot of media on my pc i want to try stream through my nvidia shield downstairs is there any apps out there which will allow me to do this apart from Plex

There are many apps that let you stream media from your PC (assuming that you've set Windows to share your PC's media library on the network via DLNA). For example, the free app MediaMonkey (which I like a lot) or the free app Wondershare can stream both audio & video files from a PC. Or if you want a full-featured "cord-cutter" TV experience, you could install the free, open-source app, Kodi which can stream music & video from your PC (and do things like stream live broadcast-TV & movies).

As long as your router is powerful enough to handle the traffic for whatever it is you plan to stream (e.g. HD movies) from your PC, then your nVidia Shield should be plenty powerful enough to decode it. (So there should be no need to run a media server like Plex on your PC, which reduces the video quality.)

As a side note... If you go with Kodi, there are several remote-control apps, like Kore or Yatse that let your phone remote-control Kodi. If you go with MediaMonkey you may be interested to know that there is also a free MediaMonkey media player for Windows which is great for playing and managing your music & videos on your PC (making playlists, editing tags, etc.). It can sync to MediaMonkey for Android via USB or WiFi. The free Android app, MMRemote, can remotely control MediaMonkey for Windows.

You may not need third-party software. Assuming that "PC" means it's running Windows, then the Windows Media Player installed with the OS will do the job.

Already have kodi with paradox installed somethings I have on my pc there are no links on active on kodi

Will give the above a try tonight thanks

My router is powerful enough have the Asus RT68U Hub
 
I'm sure you thought of this but just in case... If Kodi would be your preferred app for streaming from your PC, are you sure that the stuff you want to stream to Kodi is (a) in a folder that Windows Media Player knows about, or (b) in a folder that Kodi knows about, and (c) a media file type that Kodi recognizes (like .mp3 or .wmv)?

WRT "c" above, I'm not sure that Kodi will list a media file even if the file-extension is one that Kodi recognizes but can't play (because, e.g. the CODEC or video-profile are incompatible with Kodi, or the file is too corrupted for Kodi to understand.)

Hi guys

i asked on here recently but cant find my forum post someone said there was a way to put media in a folder on my PC and stream it from my pc to my tablet

I currently have a Nvidia Shield K1 tablet and i have a few TV shows i cant find on Kodi which i wish to stream from my PC to my TV Downstairs via my tablet through HDMI

Someone said this was possible but i cant find the old thread

Wow, a Kodi thread, that doesn't include cheapo Chinese "MX" boxes and Showbox.

Get a Roku, it's legal and is what's often recommended here on AF. :thumbsupdroid:

I'm pretty sure that the OP's Nvidia Shield is legal. I'm pretty sure that it's illegal (and punishable by whipping) to recommend using a Roku OS device on an Android forum.
 
Roku is perfectly OK and legal to recommend and discuss on AF. It's anything that infringes copyright that is not. Yeh, and we use a lot of Kodi and Nvidia Shield here in China!.

Might be a fan of the OS, but there's many Android devices I'm not a fan of though, I'm your AF Guide to Chinese Androids. :thumbsupdroid: ...and I'm in China as well.

That was an Android box with Kodi bought from China. and I recommend that they get a Roku instead, basically to avoid the possibility of being thrown in jail! :eek:

This is OT for the OP, which was about streaming media from a PC, and perfectly legal of course. :)
