App for Unicode support

Lurker
I contacted HTC NZ to see if my new Sensation can display full Unicode, and the rep.s answer was, basically, "there's an app for that". He assured me there was a 3rd-party app that would enable display of Unicode (specifically devanagari Hindi) characters in all other apps (SMS, browser, twitter, facebook, etc), but I can't find one. Does anybody know of such an app?

Welcome to AF Stuart :)

Android should support UTF-8 (8 bit unicode) out of the box -- keyword is "should." However, Android does not support all languages.

Where are you having trouble seeing the characters you'd like to see?

THank you very much for your quick reply! Hindi, India (hi_IN) was not an option available to me in my settings, but I downloaded an app, MoreLocales2, that did offer it. Unfortunately, when I selected it, the only thing that changed was the number of blank rectangles - more text that was in Hindi meant a lot more blank boxes. I guess S-E must have modded their Android 2.1 to offer the support, but HTC doesn't. A real shame that Android doesn't offer comprehensive Unicode right out of the box.

Weird. It should support it then :( Maybe try calling HTC support?

Thanks for trying. As I mentioned in my initial post, I did contact HTC - it was their rep who eventually, after putting me on hold, came back and said there were 3rd-party apps that would do this. He didn't name any, and the only one I've found, MoreLocales2, doesn't work, as detailed above.
