So I have been flirting with the idea of creating an app. But Im not even sure if my idea is possible and I am hoping to get some input from the pros. Im a big hunter and married into a family of hunters. We would like to have a more convenient "smart" way of looking at photos on trail cams. Now I know we could go buy a "viewer" from Cabelas or something but Id like to see if there is a possible way that I could develop an app to turn your android smart phone/tablet into a trail cam picture viewer. Would something like this be possible? If so what are some good resources for me to start developing n app to do this?

Sorry that I am just now replying back. I believe the webcams use USB. These ones do not have web capability. As I have mentioned, I guess the two ways I hope to do this is either A. be able to take out the SD card (standard size) from the trail cam and some how connect it to the phone for viewing,saving, deleting, or B. to hopefully keep the USB card in the trail cam and then interface to the trail cam using the USB cable between the phone and cam, and being able to view, delete, save directly that way.
Hopefully that all makes sense. Is any of this possible? If so, where would I eve start in creating something like that? Thanks for your help.
 
Ok. Slight correction. I was just at the land this weekend and saw the picture viewer and noticed that it does not use USB but a jack very similar to the jack you would find on a Mic or headphones for a PC. so using that interface would likely not work with a smart phone. What about hooking up an SD card reader to a phone via the USB and popping the card in that to be viewed and edited on a smartphone?
 
It shouldn't be too hard to find out if a phone can read an external USB card. I did a quick Google but I'm none the wiser. But my feeling is the phone is normally a slave device and just reveals its own SD card to a PC or whatever.

FWIW, when I want to transfer stuff to my phone I use DropBox. If you can get the files to a PC and both devices have Internet (perhaps a tall order on a trail) it's easy from there, with no wires needed. I'm not sure that helps much in your case, though.
