App keeps using data charges while idle

Hi there androidforums! Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

But in short, the Apps I have downloaded keep using data even though they are idle - thus making me lose prepaid money- I was wondering if there was a App or setting that can stop data being used while the app is idle or not in focus.

You can put your device into airplane mode.

You can also check the apps and see if you can have it connect to the internet less frequently.

If neither of those work you can always uninstall the app and find an alternative.

Some apps have the option to set data sync to a predetermined time like every few hours or manually. You could also toggle data off and only turn it on when you need to but that's more of a shotgun approach.

There are apps that can block data connections on an app by app basis but I believe they require root access.
