App notifications

If you have an app that is due to update/refresh every, lets say, 2 hours.

What if you don't connect to wi-fi or 3G for 5 hours. Does it just check the first time you connect or will the app say - OK, I'm connected now, I'll refresh in 2 hours from now.

Sorry if this seems a bit dumb.

Good question, I'm moving this to the apps section as its more a general question.

That would depend on how the app is written, I'd think. The API provides the ability for an application to be notified when the phone regains wifi or cellular connectivity; whether a given app takes advantage of it is a question I can't answer.
