App or method for hiding installed apps from the Play Store

I'd like to install an app on my rooted phone (running Gingerbread) using an .apk, but I don't want that app to show up in the Google Play list afterward. Is it possible to do this? I know I can't remove an app from that list once it's on the list, but I just want to prevent it from being included in the first place.

Thoughts I have are somehow running the app from within a "shell" app with a different name, or some kind of virtual environment, that way only the shell or virtual environment shows up in Google Play.

Can this be done?

Only apps installed from Google Play or its predecessor, Android Market, will show in the Play installed apps list.

If you get your apps from alternate sources like getjar.com or the Amazon App store, they won't show up in the list on Google Play. Only apps downloaded and installed there will be on the lists. Just remember, that apps installed from less than legitimate sources are most likely pirated and can be vectors for malware. I would recommend against that.
