app permissions

I tried putting this in search, but nothing would come up.

This may seem like a silly question, but here goes. Why is it that most of the android apps need to be granted access to different things on your phone or tablet before it is installed? Even the apps that you pay for, you have to allow access to things that have nothing to do with the operation of the program.

I think that in most cases, you will find that the permissions are actually benign, but just explained poorly... if at all. To compound the problem, Google's canned permission warnings are written in geek-speak rather than plain English. For example, it might seem unnecessary for a camera app to have Internet and GPS access. However, the app might need GPS because it has a configurable geostamping option, and needs Internet to serve ads.

If it really bothers you, find an alternative app (doesn't seem to be a shortage of any given type) or root and then install something like Permissions Denied, which allows you to selectively disable permissions on a per-app basis.
