[APP] PickMeUp! Share location using any installed app

metalman

Newbie
I just recently published my first app on Android Market, Reviewed by AndroidStatic here: PickMeUp! Makes Sharing Your Location Easy - Android Static

Download here: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.droidstop.pickmeup
img.php

Description
The main purpose of the app is to make it simple for you when you:
* Need to ask someone for a ride and that "someone" is not bright enough to follow your directions.
* Have a date planned and your date has trouble locating you.
* You simply want to share your whereabouts.
* Are asked where you are and it's easier to show on a map.

Your location can be shared using SMS, Facebook, twitter or Email.

Anyway, I'd appreciate it alot if you could take some time to test it and/or let me know what you think of the idea.

My questions are:
* Does the app work as you expect
* Is the idea good/bad?
* Is the app easy enough to be used.

I have loads of improvments planned, but I prefer waiting with those until I see there's a demand for
this app.

Requirements/Permissions
* GPS
* Internet

Thank you for your time and feedback

It may just be me, but I can't click on the "install" button on the market. In fact, the install button does not show unless my pointer is off the page. This has happened to me before. Even if I roll over to where the install button should be, no finger-pointer shows, meaning I can't click to install the app. :(

Thats weird.. haven't heard of that problem before, but thanks for the intention of giving it a try :)

Anyway, I've improved the way it behaves when clicking the location links by hosting a google map on my site. There's no changes in the actual app.

If anyone decides to give it a go, please let me know what you think.

Thanks

New version out now
News in this release:
- Settings dialog
- Friendly short Urls (easy to remember, see updated screenshot in first post)
Live example: DroidStop - Shared Location
- Ability to share using twitter
- Can now specify your name, as it will be shown on the maps.

Please, give it a try and let me know what you think.

Cheers

I've just released a major update to my first take on a game for android.

Supported languages: English, Swedish.

This is sort of a strange word game where you swat flies, flying saucers and an occasional bird for bonus points, without loosing your concentration.

To clear a level you need to rearrange the letters into the original words within a certain time limit. It starts quite easy but after a while it tends to get harder.

There's a couple of hundred levels and more than a thousand words, after a while you need to memorize more and longer words.

Oh, I almost forgot, when you press pause you see how good your score is, and how many levels you've cleared as compared with all other players.

Next up for implementation is multi player support.
I'll continously add new bonus objects and backgrounds.

I hope you enjoy the game/idea :) if not please let me know what I could do to make it better.

Developed for Android 1.6 and up, though facebook integration does not work in Android 1.6 for some obscure reason.

Thank you for your time.

https://market.android.com/details?id=org.droidstop.nerdbrowser

I just released a simple little browser intended to be of help for mobile web developers. It currently has these features:
* View Source (with syntax highlighting (though javascript/css does not get highlighted yet))
* Inject JavaScript
* Console View
* View resources referenced from the current page
* Pause/Resume embedded content such as flash objects.

Though it functions as a standalone browser, it also integrates into the standard browsers share menu.

Please, remember that this is in very early beta and I published it just to give other web developers the opportunity to join in and let me know what features needs to be implemented, and of course to let me know of any serious bugs.

Next up for implementation is a
* html dom outline (think inspect element in Google Chrome)

Let me know what you think
Thanks

Oh man, I wish I saw that earlier today. I could really use it. Does it show html after it has been change by Javascript? (Like firebug...)

- Yes it does. I'm also working on including ways to view the raw html sent from the server, but I'm still having some trouble intercepting it..

Perfect, I downloaded your app. It works great, the only thing I would fix is to make it so I don't have to type "http://" at the beginning of URLs to make them work.

Great app though!

New release: 1.28
News
* Use WiFi if no GPS is available. If no location service is available, settings are opened.
* Share your location using ANY installed app capable of sharing, this includes GMail, Email, SMS, Facebook, Twitter, Peep and more.
* Minor Bug fixes
* Scrollable layout for smaller screens.

Just released version 1.5, a complete rewrite on some major parts and with a completely new set of graphics. I edited the first post to fit the current state of the game as it has evolved too much from the original release.

Enjoy.

And now I've just released 1.7.
Apart for some bug fixes I've implemented a status panel that displays your current progress. You can still press pause to show more info on how well you play as compared to other players.

Cheers

1.75 Has just been released.
- All ads interfering with game play removed.
- Ability to unlock as many levels as you wish.
- Loads of bug fixes!

Enjoy!

1.79 released
- The game should now run fine on all devices.
- Major optimizations
- New graphics.

The game was nominated and is in the top ten in the Best Word Games of 2011 category at BestAppEver.com!

Cheers

Hello!
I would like to introduce you to a new free service for Android app developers currently available in it's first public beta.

I will start by a short introduction, qualityapp.net allows you to register your apps and their belonging FAQ's, Change Logs, ReadMe files and more. Using our very easy to use sdk/toolbox you may then from within your app show these documents using just one line of code, for instance:
Code:
new Faq().show(this);

I will post a few screenshots, and tell you what it can be used for.
Update Checker
If you enter the changelog you may also take advantage of the auto updater feature. If your apk is hosted by Google Play the Download Now button will launch the Google Play app displaying your app, if you instead have a direct download link to the .apk, the Download now button will initiate a download and launch the update automatically.
updatecheck.png

This can be used as a seamless transition between pre-published and Google Play hosted versions, for instance if you have beta testers installing the app from an alternative source.

FAQ
I believe many apps would gain from having a Faq, but most of us (developers) just find them too boring to implement.

Dashboard
Where you register your app, and see how many active users you've had for the past 24 hours.

All layouts and texts in the dialogs can be modified and localized to suit your needs, as long as you don't change any id's.

Apart from these features, there a few others available but I think this is enough for you to decide if you're interested or not. I'm not here to recruit, just let you know that it exists if you find it useful.

QualityApp Android App Manager

As we have just now reached our first public beta, all feedback is welcome!

Since my post here yesterday we've had quite a number of publishers registering their apps and some very positive feedback have been sent to us so far.

We've had a large number of questions regarding the app Alert feature, and whether it's allowed to use it as a push notification feature. While it's allowed, I wouldn't reccomend using it in background services or polling too often as it has the potential to reduce battery life.

If you need push notifications in your apps I reccomend reading this blog post:
How to Implement Push Notifications for Android

Cheers

One of the apps implementing our tools with more than 250 000 downloads agreed to include a beta of our coming news feed, if you've already registered as a publisher you might have noticed the "Publish Press Release" option. That is your chance to compete with the bigger guys in terms of exposure as your press release will be pushed directly to that feed.

The Press Release feature is completely undocumented for now and does not require any apps to be registered. There's a maximum of 255 characters and all urls will be automatically converted to links in the feed. The press release MUST be directly associated with either one of your apps or you as a publisher.

The above mentioned app has scheduled an update with the news feed implemented within a week.

Also, I wish to stress that the service has gained in popularity and we will clearly have to disable new sign ups within a couple of days as we're very close to the maximum number of available testers.

We plan to be fully operational and start our marketing campaign by 1st of May. To all who have sent us feedback and bug reports, we appreciate it, we couldn't have done it without you.

Cheers

And here's a beta for those of you who wish to use our features but are unwilling to include external source code in your apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.qualityapp.reader
newsfeed_small.png

The way this app works is, if started manually it will display a news feed containing current activity and press releases from our already registered developers. If you use an intent to start our app with some predefined parameters set, the app will display your release log, faq or readme files.

An early version of my new app that allows you to browse and manage the contents of your device using just a webbrowser has just been published.

The Video and Image galleries shows thumbnails, and if you have the correct plugins installed in your browser you can stream audio and video without downloading.

Here's a video clip featuring the web interface:

And here are two screenshots of the server app and the web based user interface

Download from Google Play:

If you decide to try it, please note that when you start the server it might take a while before the server is active, you will notice when notification icon "xp" is shown.

This is an early version, and if feedback shows it's worth it, I will implement ability to transfer files TO the device within a week.

I have only been able to test the app on an HTC Sensation with ICS, and an emulator running 2.2 so I can't guarantee it will work for everyone yet, just remember to send bug reports to me so I can fix all issues, if there are any.

I would really appreciate feedback on this.
Thanks for reading.

I got some great feedback and reviews so I decided to post an update.

Just now I published version 1.02, but it might take a few hours before the update has propagated through all the google servers.

Latest fixes:
Version 1.02
- Transfer files to your device, (You can also upload a zip and have it extracted once it has finished uploading)
- Rename files and folders
- Delete files and folders
- Create new folders
- Performance boost in the gallery views

So it's more and more starting to look like a file manager.

ToDo
- Multiple file uploads
- Restrict app from running on certain networks, and have it automatically start on others
- A *bonus feature* named QuickShare for those who purchased the ad-free version..
(I'm not much for limiting functionality, I'd rather like to add a few bonuses and helpful features for those who help me in return)

Please, report bugs and feature requests and post your feedback, and thanks again for your time.
