Help App Problems With New SanDisk Card

I had a feeling nothing would really work in the end because any updates to your Apps (FB, IG, etc.) rendered what was moved to your 4gb card to be useless files. The updates basically reinstalled those Apps on your internal SD and you were thinking they were working off of your external micro SD the whole time. Here's a link to support what I'm saying. See more focus at Parts 4 & 5 of this article.

http://techgage.com/article/moving_your_non-movable_android_apps_to_an_sd_card/

I thought that too but it was worth a try. Thanks for the link...I got through about 6 paragraphs and my head is spinning. I cannot believe putting in a new SD card is so difficult. I swear I'm so frustrated I may get a landline with a long cord. hahaha Thank you ALL for all the help but I feel a migraine coming so I am going to break and think about all this. Will try again tomorrow and see what happens.

Yes I feel bad for you! But I hope you saw the FB link in my previous post also. It's a simple and straightforward not gonna happen anymore!

Yes, I went and read it...And Facebook owns Messenger and Instagram so there you have it I guess. But I should be able to change my settings so all my videos/photos go to the SD card. So that will help.

This thread... Wow!

FWIW I've always bought devices that have adequate internal storage for the apps I might be using. And the SD is for my photos, videos, mp3s, etc.

This is what the corporate atmosphere is forcing upon all us pawns and it just keeps getting worse each year.

Yesterday's technology becomes tomorrow's useless garbage!

You are so damn right my brother!, I always say that this stupid useless incompetent people in top make changes for worse instead to change for better..we see it in every single arena in life..I don't know why..it would be so easy to change for better..that's why I don't update none of my apps..and when I download an app I always make sure to keep a copy of that actual app on my sd card..

I'm in China, not the United States. I can't even buy a phone with 4GB internal storage, unless I want to be extremely cheap or second hand. Usually the minimum now is 16GB from most major manufacturers..

I'm thinking more like 32GB if you want have an App crazy cushion.

The OP (Aprilneo) may likely be on a budget, as many others are these days, and what you an I agree on is not easily attainable for others. I do feel however that when one shops for providers/affordable plans the internal memory of compatible phones is equally important in the equation these days. Most high end phones don't even have an external card slot anymore.

My suggestion to Aprilneo if at all possible:

Sell LG Volt on ebay and get whatever you can for it. Current listings are between $35-$55.00 to use this toward a new phone. Heck, with 20,000 followers you could try a FundMe! :D

Consider purchasing a Motorola X Pure Edition MXPE 32GB model. This is a nice phone with exterior customization (build your own) and is $449 for the 32GB option. It currently comes with free shipping & added free 1 yr extended warranty (expires tomorrow 1/26). It is compatible with ALL service providers, so you could continue using it on Boost Mobile as long as you pull out their sim card and use it in your MXPE.

or switch to

Total Wireless (uses Verizon Network - better coverage) service provider. $35/mo unlimited talk/text/2.5GB data (optional $10 add-on 1.5GB carryover data backup card)

This would prevent you from getting frustrated by insufficient memory notifications for a while.

Unfortunately they have these 200 yuan, $30 4GB "Christmas cracker" devices. Think you're getting a bargain, but it's not.

What would you recommend to somebody who can't afford to lay out $200+ on a piece of disposable tech (which is what cell phones are these days, especially since more and more have non-removable batteries)? Go without any smartphone at all? Stick with a flip phone? It's not that people are buying these because they (the people) are cheap. They are buying these phones because they are on a budget.

I happen to have one of these phones - an LG Fuel. And I'm pretty sure that I got a bargain because you can't get much more of a bargain than $0. I don't run Facebook or any such apps or large games and have no desire to, but the apps that I do run, run just fine. I am satisfied with my phone.

That phone sounds nice. :thumbsupdroid: You are correct. I am on a budget. It's one of priorities since I just spent $600 on a new Canon camera with zooms, etc. :D I travel all over (Germany, Italy, Arizona, California, Chicago, in the last year) and I take amateur photos (I also paint) hoping to improve my skills. And a new laptop and high-quality easel will come first before a new phone. This LG phone was a gift and I just thought a simple 'fix' with a 32GB SD would suit me. I don't play games on my phone or have any off-the-wall apps. Who knew it would be so ridiculously complicated?? :spitoutdroid:

The phone appears to be working well today but we shall see. I don't know about the 'Go-Fund-Me'...I would feel guilty asking for money from anyone. I became an Amazon affiliate for ads on my Facebook page. That's as far as I'll go with spamming my 'likers.' LOL :p

I totally understand you have the reality of a clash between Finances & Priorities.

Free phone is good!

Simple Fix? What the hell is that? I believe that phrase has been driven into obsolescence! :( I give you Kudos in you're understanding of your phone and perseverance to try various things to come to a resolution even if it doesn't accomplish what you had expected. You're drive was what was important and portrays who you are as an individual.

Oh and it's only going to get more and more complicated as developers impose restrictions to their memory hogging Apps. Phone manufacturers love it because they just increase memory and get to sell more new phones to those that are forced to abandon theirs. This kind of bull really put you through the ringer last night thinking there was hope.

I'm surprised that you were even getting those memory deficiency messages since you're evidently not bastardizing your phone with Apps. I'm not sure what Boost Mobile does with installed bloatware and otherwise will put the blame on FB & IG. I participate in neither of them but I would think your LG Volt with 8GB memory should handle ordinary usage. I heard IG is a real imposition on cache and going into the App manger and clearing it (not data) every so often may be advised. There are other things that could be done to stop unnecessary Apps running in the background but you'd have to get more savvy with how to manage them. Not something I've ever needed to deal with.

Good, I hope it makes-do for you for a while. Just try to manage it by flushing once in a while.

I like to hear you're honest and independent attitude - follow your destiny!!!

Good luck!

Yeah...simple fix...I should have put a huge laughing emoji after that one. :D My phone does have apps that I can't uninstall and I hate phone companies for that. Most of them no one even uses. Well at least I don't. ;)

I do clear the cache every day and will continue to do so until this phone passes away from premature techno death and I am forced to buy a new phone. I will keep that phone/service you mentioned in mind. Definitely NO contract. I may still figure this out, who knows? If I do I'll come back here and brag about it. LOL

I'll admit that I'm rooted on all my devices, but I was under the impression that you don't have to be rooted to move apps to the SD card if you do so under Settings ---> Apps, at least for KitKat. I could be mistaken, though, because I'm rooted.

@Aprilneo, how did it go?

Not all apps can be moved to an SD card, whether KitKat or Lollipop. Go into Settings->Application Manager and choose the app you want to move. If the"Move to SD Card" button is grayed out, the app cannot be moved. Some apps can be moved to an SD card but performance suffers; there isn't any magic formula to identify the flakey performance, just experience, but you at least can move it back to the phone memory.

BTW, I use Class 10 SD cards, available as walk-in at area Staples. Cheap enough, and not worth fooling around with slow cards, or anything less than 32MB.

I know about trying to move the apps...if they're grayed out it won't work. I moved everything back to the phone memory anyway. I'll see how long it works without slowing down and the inevitable 'not-enough-storage' message. Thanks.

If you don't add any more more apps and you keep all of your photos, videos and downloads on your SD card you should be fine.

There are different ways to format a card (or drive) mainly involving default cluster sizes, i.e. how much "space" is in the standard unit "box" of memory on the card. It is possible that your phone wants to format the cards with a specific size, and that doesn't match your computer's ideas, so if you can find any options to format the card on your phone, instead of the computer, try that.

If you can't, look at the 4GB card's properties on your computer, see what size clusters it is using, and make sure the 32GB card is formatted the same way.

Odds are that if the software you ran to check your card says the card is genuine, that it is. But Amazon uses a process called "binning". If a hundred merchants, including two crooks in Belorus and one upstanding shop in Kansas, all send "32GB Sandisk" cards to Amazon? They all get tossed in the same inventory bin, so there is no process in place to screen out the counterfeits. Amazon, to date, has only conceded that this is a problem they need to work on.

You might try using the card on someone else's phone, to confirm if it works at all. If not...That's the benefit of Amazon Prime. Return it as defective, and Amazon will even pay the return shipping.

Hi
I was having so many 'not-enough-storage' issues with my LG Volt that I purchased a 32 GB card and installed it last night. I safely 'unmounted' and 'mounted' the card (twice actually) and downloaded Facebook and Instagram again then moved them to the card to save internal storage. The apps show up on my phone as before but when I try to access either all I get is a black screen on Facebook and a frozen screen on Instagram. After restarting my phone several times and deleting download data I still have the same problem. Should I uninstall and reinstall?

I read this forum before and that's what made me finally join. I contacted Boost Mobile (my carrier) for help with a previous issue but they are useless. Basically told me to buy a new phone. Advice I read here helped me fix my previous problem so here I am permanently. HELP!! :specsdroid:

@glc Just installed SD Insight and according to the app my card is genuine. @Xavier Black Yes I uninstalled all apps first. Rebooted the phone twice. Took out the battery, etc. Even cleared all data and logged in with my passwords again. I just moved all 3 apps back to my phone's internal memory and they are working wonderfully. The problem is when I move them to card. This makes no sense.

Be careful with these cards Aprilneo,I had issues with them before, then last year someone warned me that the cards can erase everything on your device, not just a few files but they said EVERYTHING,hope you don't have that happen to you.

Actually I've been doing my research and what you can do is PARTITION your sd card..and that would help you in all your issues including space and memory wise..look into it..

Hi all, just come across this thread, very interesting. I've got an LG L70, low memory device - 1.5gb user available, basically useless to a heavy app user. Seriously root your phone, it's not dangerous if you read and follow the instructions exactly.

Mine is rooted, with 5.1 lollipop rom installed, and my sd is partitioned with a 4gb ext4 partition for link2sd to use. I've got 80+ apps installed, and just under 1gb free on internal!

Also, if it exists for the Volt, look for a mod to use sd as internal, as of kit kat almost nothing will go to your sd card (thanks Google!). Now I only have sd card listed in my file manager, everything apart from apps automatically goes there, it's like bloody magic!

Just read, read some more, and then take the plunge. Folk on here will help with any problems, just ask. Good luck!
