[App question/opinion] Apps vs Web sites

your question is not specific to anyone handset, so moved to app section where more eyes can see and offer their opinions.

to help with an answer, those apps are designed for small screens and are optimized to load quick and give you the main links you need without all of the flash and glitz of a full blown website.

if you were on a bigger screen, say a tablet, then i personally would use the regular website as i much prefer that over a WAP base style.

there is no right or wrong reason to use either method you ask for. in the end use what is most pleasing and comfortable to you.

this very site has a tapatalk app that allows you to gain access with little fuss. do you happen to use the tapatalk site for this forum or do you use the regular full website on your phone?

Well in my case, the app is faster and able to show the content better, like pictures. In the app, pictures can take the entire screen, and you can share any picture from the app. In the website, sharing seems to be a little choosy as to what you can and cannot share.

Also, with the apps like Facebook and Facebook Messenger, you can share content directly from your phone to the person. For example, I am chatting with a friend when I come across something I'd like them to see. I take a picture and share it to them via Facebook chat.

Basically its additional integration.

Although I can ‘surf’ on my tiny Optimus, it’s such a pain that I hardly ever bother. So I generally confine myself to apps that make things workable, whenever possible.

I just trend to use dolphin browser for the majority of Web browsing,I will when at work occasionally load a few forum pages but even then I trend to just use my phone.

I do have problems with viewing some pictures on Facebook though so sometimes revert to the app.....

The benefits of using an app rather than a web-site for me are that the app generally loads far quicker, hogs my CPU a lot less, and eats less of my data allowance. Additionally, I find some websites using a lot of java/Javascript/etc. may not function properly in my browsers or even if they do, may be horrid to use and I rely on apps to use them.

I generally use tapatalk for forums as I find a lot of forums are very script-heavy, and on my aging ViewSonic ViewPad running froyo, they can lock up my OS for ages!

it is simple. If you are surfing on laptop or computer, definitely you need to choose website. But if you are reading on smaller screen, like phone, go to app is a good idea. For it will be open faster and save your time.

same experience here :)

notebook, pc, tablet 10" = website
phone = special app, its faster and optimized for smaller screen
