App sees files Windows does not

I use Solid Explorer on both my Galaxy S2 phone and Tab 2 10.1 tablet. Solid shows all the folders and files on both devices.

I can connect both devices to my pc. When I open Windows Explorer I can see all the folders on my phone and tablet but only the files on my tablet. Windows reports each folder on the phone as having 0 bytes for files.

This is a new problem as I have always seen the files inside the phones folders on Windows (Win 7 Home Premium 64bit)

Why should Windows suddenly stop showing files from my phone when it shows the folders and both folders and files from the tablet?

Any ideas please?

Thank you for your reply.

Tried two different cables and also on another Win 7 machine.

Still no phone files; only files that do show are those not in folders i.e. a few files are in root these show but all the folders shown in root will not show files.

Also notice that the tablet does not show up as being on USB; do not have to stop before unplugging but phone does show as USB i.e. have click to "Safely remove..."

Wonder why one not shown as USB yet reads files ok but the other shows connected by USB but will not show files?

There is one type of file that does show. jpg even if several folders deep. Shows whether on internal Sd or external SD???

What Android version do you have on each device?

More recent releases have changed the way that the device's storage appears when connected to a computer via USB. Pre-4.0 would emulate a USB mass storage (UMS) device (hence the "safely remove" prompt); later releases use the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), which presents the storage slightly differently but allows both the device and PC to access the same files simultaneously. That could explain at least part of the disconnect between the two devices.
