[app suggestions] Data Recovery Options?

So I've tried every trick I can find and I still cannot get my HTC One to start up past the White HTC loading screen. I am resolved that I need to perform a factory reset, and chance losing my pictures and photos which weren't backed up. However, I've come across a couple of websites advertising Android Data Recovery Software (usually for a fee of $30-$40). Has anyone used and had success with data recovery software (which has only an internal hard drive, no sd card)? Has anyone found free software I can try before buying something?

Thanks,
Bill

The thing to check with any "data recovery" software is that it doesn't rely on your being able to mount the device as USB mass storage (i.e. so it appears as a flash drive on your PC). That's not supported by Android any more, and few manufacturers have built it back into their phones. So unless the software works with the phone attached as a media device (which I'd guess was unlikely) or via adb (USB debugging) it's not going to work for you. Reading the instructions on the firm's website should tell you this.

Spending $30-40 on software that does rely on USB mass storage is pointless: if the phone supports UMS you can just use Recuva on Windows, which is free. But the One doesn't, so that's not an option.

Probably a silly question, but have you done a 'wipe cache partition'? (assuming you have 'fast boot' disabled.)

:)

Ok,

So i installed the ADB command prompt and the HTC Sync program.

Booted up my phone and got the Fastboot USB indicator...typed in "fastboot erase cache" and received an error. (tried many times)

My phone is unrooted... So that was my best clear cache attempt...

Suggestions?

Hi, I was thinking of the following procedure which I have used a few times, particularly after a software update, it has sorted a problem or two out for me, the advantage over a reset is it doesn't affect any data, apps, settings etc. :-

> Press and hold the Volume Down key.

> With the Volume key held down, press and hold the Power key till the phone switches off. Continue to hold both the volume down and power keys until the screen lights up again

> When you see Three Android robots on skateboards Release the Power and Volume down key.

> Tap the Volume down key once to highlight RECOVERY

> Press and release the Power key to Activate Recovery
Then screen will change to a series of backgrounds

> At the screen with a red triangle and a phone,
Hold the Volume Up key and press the power button.

>Use the volume down key to tap down to highlight WIPE CACHE PARTITION

> Tap the power key to select the Wipe Cache Partition.

> You will see the yellow writing come up to confirm the Wipe Cache Partition

> After This has been completed, Use the power key to reboot your phone.

It could be worth trying. Although 'fast boot' should be disabled I don't know how it affects things if it isn't - I've only ever done it with it disabled.

:)

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, when i hit Recovery, the phone doesn't go to multiple backgrounds, it just goes to the white HTC loading screen for a bit then shuts down. I'm going to try a factory reset...

Hi,
If you want to recover data from your android devices, then there is nothing to worry because you can easily recover all the lost data by using Android data recovery software. This is an excellent recovery software which can recover all the lost data from Android devices. This recovery software can be used by any person and can recover all the lost data in original format.

Hey guys,
i have a htc one which i just recently factory reset due to the phone getting locked out. i now want to recover some of the data if possible using data recovery software.
i have trawled through a lot of forums but none of the software suggested seems to work for me. i think this is because my phone deosnt support usb mass storage but instead just mtp.
just to clarify, my computer detects my phone just fine through mtp, but none of the data recovery software seem to work. they always instruct me to turn on usb mass storage(which i cant because apparently htc one with 4.3 doesnt support it).
i really dont know what to do at this point, as i desperately want to recover atleast some of the lost data.
Please help me if you know a solution.
Thanks!

Lesson learned. I will definitely look into better back up options in the future.
Meanwhile, i am still trying to find a software that can recover data from an mtp device.
