App uninstall

I installed an app (navigation with uk map total about 500mb) which I later decided to remove.
I went back to the play store and touched uninstall, and it seemed to be removed.
However later using a file manager I discovered the folder still there totalling the full 500mb?
I have noticed on a previous phone similar things can happen sometimes with just an empty folder left.
All this makes for an untidy and wasteful system.
Am I doing the right thing by uninstalling at the play store or is there a better way?

What gets left behind after uninstalling is normally up to the app developer. You can minimize leftovers by going to Settings > Apps > Select app > Clear cache & Clear data before uninstalling.

Uninstalling from the Play Store should be OK, but a more surefire method would be Settings > Apps > Select app > Uninstall.

I also usually 'clear data' before uninstalling.
