App wanted to replace Palm notes function

One reason for my finally buying an android phone is to replace functionality of my dying Palm Z22. I use the memo facility of the Palm to hold passwords and other stuff I need to remember, and use JPilot to sync this data between Palm and my Ubuntu desktop. I'm sure my new phone should be able to provide a similar facility and do it in a much more secure way, but I'm struggling to find the right app.

These are the features I want:

- secure access to data on phone
- encrypted data on phone
- sync to PC (sync on individual items, not just on a file containing everything)
- data can be added/edited on phone or PC

There are apps that provide secure notes but seem only to offer backup/restore to PC. I want the data to be accessible from the PC so I can input/edit the data there - much easier with a proper keyboard.

There are apps (like KeePass and LastPass) that are aimed at password management for websites. These are much more sophisticated than I need, and store the shared data in the cloud. I want to keep it local, just between my phone and PC.

I just need something similar to the notes function that can sync between phone and PC. I don't need the other Palm functionality.

Can anyone suggest a suitable app, or combination of apps?

Sounds like a good idea. I used to keep a whole lot of stuff in my palm memo app and your post actually reminded me how much I miss that. I'm going to start writing an app now, and will let you know as I progress. Here's my ideas...

Modeled after the palm memo app - The first line of text will be the title

- secure access to data on phone

secured by a password

- encrypted data on phone

The password will be the decryption key to decrypt the data

- sync to PC (sync on individual items, not just on a file containing everything)

I'll have to write an app for the PC as well for syncing. Not sure if I'll store everything in one encrypted data file on the phone and have it parsed out on the desktop app with the option to save any item as a text file.

Closest I can think of is Springpad.
App for phone, web interface for PC with a clipper etc.
I use it a lot.
No encryption though, I'm happy enough with the phones built in lock

I also use Keepass and sync it through dropbox to get it everywhere.
your gonna have a hard time finding what your after I feel :-(

Maybe B-Folders will do what you'd like? It synchs to a PC but the PC software is $30, the App is free & can be used alone & is for me a great app. The PC component has a 30 day trial. It synched easily for me. Developer responded very quickly to my Q's & has plans for nice additions.

Wow - an application built to order! Maybe I should have requested more features.

I was thinking of having a go at writing it myself if it turned out that there was nothing around although I've not done any android development yet.

The phone lock will not prevent someone removing the SD card and accessing the data - it's not encrypted.

I've read about B-Folders and it sounds good but as a (retired) Java developer I'd rather have a go at writing it myself than pay good money - I guess I'm naturally mean!
