Help Apparent stagefright patch not working

It'd make sense to start a new thread for it, but I've not the foggiest where. I'll be gone for a bit, so if you're able to point me towards a thread, that'd work. So far I've found this great, root is here, UI looks amazing, went for a material glass look but gonna try others. Before I head off, is there a setting anywhere for auto brightness? That's one feature I'd enjoy having still.
Should be in settings/display/adaptive brightness. Glad you're enjoying it. I guess if you have any questions or anything, here is good for now. Have fun bro!

I do have one. Currently I have essentially no service. No messaging, data, or calls. Freedompop's diagnostics don't seem to have anything, and when I try to open "My Freedompop", it shoots me back to login without any error or anything the moment I log in. The messenger knows it's me and displays data/minutes left normally though. Do you think it's an issue with them, or the APN I installed, or something else? If it helps, the mobile connection thing in the status says "Sprint", which I expected since freedompop goes through them.

Did you select freedompop apn in the aroma installer? It should say freedompop. Try booting to recovery and flash just the rom again. No wipes or anything. Boot to twrp, tap install, then select the rom zip and swipe the arrow at the bottom. Then just tap reboot system. Let me know if it works
If that doesn't work, I have another apn zip you can try flashing in recovery. freedompop apn

I'm fairly certain I did, but I'll give it another go anyways. Do you mean to flash all 3 things, or which ROM in particular? I thought it was the APN zip that dealt with the carrier.

It is. I actually talked to someone, this is what they said

Try reflashing the FreedomPop APN. It shouldn't say Sprint, it should say FreedomPop. And the Messenger app needs to be installed and successfully configured. You can tell if it is by checking the status in the app.

So just try installing the file I just linked you in my last post, that should do it.
(Install in twrp)

So, what's the word? Let me know what you did and what happened.
Just finished the flash, maybe it timed out or something just as I was about to hit it, because it says freedompop now. I'll be testing soon whether or not data gets through but the messenger updated and I suspect it will.

Nice. You should be good. But I will keep an eye on this thread tonight to get you sorted.

Righty. Calls and messaging are refusing to play nice, probably because I live far from any cell service, but data is going so I assume the other two are, though data is going at 2G speeds, which is sad. I'll keep tinkering with the different settings and options available to me with this OS, give you a break until tomorrow at least :p

That's odd, everything should be working. If you flashed the apn fix zip. If you continue having trouble, flash the mvno apn one again and be sure to choose freedompop. You can look in settings/mobile networks/ access point names and make sure freedompop lte is selected.
Last resort, boot to recovery and flash rom zip again (the one that says octosL 5.1.1). But only that file without wiping anything.

I was able to get a call through a few minutes ago, so things seem to be good now. No worries there at least.

Hopefully no news = good news.
Aye, things seem to be working great now. Found the option for adaptive brightness, service seems relatively fine now, and things are good. I like that I can set a theme's background without any of the other settings, as I love the material glass theme's background but the UI is difficult to work with. I'll update this if I come across anything that may be an issue.

Stagefright is not much of an issue if you disable MMS in your messaging app.
Uh, yeah a lot of vulnerabilities are not much of an issue if you cripple all of your features. MMS is very useful, why disable it? Besides, most custom roms are just as up to date as nexus.
For those of us that like to keep all of our features and functionality of our smart phones, we just update our software with the latest security. As we just did in this thread. Or maybe you didn't read it before commenting.
