Apple admits they F-ed with old iphone performance!!!!

Actually Apple have only admitted doing this for the last year or so: they say it started with iOS 10.2.1. I assume they are telling the truth there, because it's an open invitation for someone to go out and repeat the tests with an older version, so would be a stupid thing to lie about.

But complaints about iPhones slowing down when the OS is upgraded are nothing new. So I would assume that's because the newer version is more demanding and so the phone runs slower (whether they make less effort to optimise for older hardware would be a matter of pure speculation, and impossible to prove either way, so I suggest we don't go there). Although it's not a universal rule, we can all think of many cases of people complaining that their android device runs slower after an update, or people who refuse to upgrade their OS because they've heard that's what happens, so I'm not sure we can draw a clear distinction between platforms there.

yes.. seem unusable .. is NOT and exaggeration.

i have several friends .. whom are iphone lovers.
many of them experience.. this with old phones that update to new IOS.
they show me the issues.. complain.. and go out and get the newest iphone.
and fall deep in love again.. till it gets about 2 yrs old....
rinse and repeat!

apple admits they do it.. finally.. and give an excuse... with bullshiiit = "fake news"
like the republicans and their leader... with use of "fake news"
and the sheep eat up the BS.. like it is hersey's choco kisses

Hope you're happy in your bubble of hate and vitriol. I also know several iPhone users, some still clinging to their 4s, and are quite content to keep using them as is. But that's all just anecdotal, something haters love to focus on. I wasn't defending Apple, just expressing an opinion that I feel this particular issue is without merit. There are plenty of actual, real issues the public should focus on regarding Apple, I just don't think old smartphones not running as fast as new ones is one of them.
(... and while you undoubtedly view this as 'fake news' but here in the real world, cars age differently than smartphones. A more valid analogy would be to compare the overall performance of a ten year old car to a new one.)

What Dan is referring to as "Fake News" is the insinuation that the idea of Apple throttling back CPU's to save batteries is a thinly veiled pretense for pushing users to upgrade. While I'm sure that's an added benefit for Apple, deliberately slowing down phones was most likely a "user experience" decision where a quickly dying battery will get noticed much faster than a lag here and there.

In any case, they did it, admitted it and now have to spin it.

Dan, this isn't Twitter. Has nothing to do with politics, sex scandals or global warming. Let's kill the hyperbole, shall we? ;)

excuse me... i was attacked for my opinion.. in my thread... about tech.
which is based in real world facts.

and i have NOT attacked anyone person in particular.
but.. .... whatever... who says life or internet is fair.

Be fair. You took the article and insinuated they were doing much more, or for different reasons and then start hurling "fake news" monikers about. Look, I am a huge detractor of Apple's chase for the dollar at the expense of consumers, but don't sink to "their" level. (You know who I mean. ;))

Actually it was you who 'attacked' me first. If you're going to start a flame war at least use accurate arguments.

And participating in said "flame war" will get you smacked down just as hard.

I don't care "who started it" or "who mom likes best" (Are we all still 10 years-old?), let's stick to issues. Flame on about Apple lying, but keep the personal stuff confined to Twitter, please.
