apple/android playing nice?

Hello. I have an Asus tablet and my kids have the iPod touch. They have a cute messaging programme and I was wondering if there was an app that would enable our Apple & Android worlds to communicate similarily. I've searched the market without success.
Apple appears so exclusive :-(
