Apple Fanboy getting a Note or S3 but have some questions

koose

Hi...I've had an iphone ever since they have been out, but with the underwhelming iphone 5 announcement I am going to get an S3 or the New Note 2. But I have some questions. I'm sorry if they seem silly or obvious, but I just want to know for sure before i cross over.

1. Do android phones have an all text SMS popup on the lock screen, so when I am at work if I get a text message i can just lock over and read the whole thing without even touching it?

2. Can you sync facebook and contacts so everyone's profile photos show up in your contacts?

3. Can you drag and drop multiple programs into one folder and if so how many fit in a folder? I like that so I can put all my son's games in one folder.

4. Can you have custom SMS text tones or do you have to use what is available? I like to create my own ringtones and text tones.

5. Does the map program talk to give turn by turn directions?

6. How is the resolution on the Note 1 and S3? I looked at an S2 last year and you could see the facebook and twitter photos all looked pixelated. Are they better now?

Thanks for your help!!!!

1. Do android phones have an all text SMS popup on the lock screen, so when I am at work if I get a text message i can just lock over and read the whole thing without even touching it? You could use GOsms app to do this.

2. Can you sync facebook and contacts so everyone's profile photos show up in your contacts? Pretty sure you can, but not 100%

3. Can you drag and drop multiple programs into one folder and if so how many fit in a folder? I like that so I can put all my son's games in one folder. Also use a free app for this(forgot name), that let's me organize my apps and create folders.

4. Can you have custom SMS text tones or do you have to use what is available? I like to create my own ringtones and text tones. I use a free ringtone maker app. Or use a app called zedge were I'm able to download tones.

5. Does the map program talk to give turn by turn directions? Yes.

Thanks for your help!!!!

How is the screen resolution on the Note when looking at facebook photos etc...compare to the iphone. I hope not pixelated, that could be a deal breaker for me.

Thanks for your help!!!

1. Not all has popups, and for a Samsung you'd have to download an app for that. Although at the moment of receivving the message, the screen lights up and the entire message flashes on the notification bar one line at a time, so yes you can read the message without even touching the phone when you receive one.

2. Yes. You need to download the Facebook app or enable websync in the accounts settings first though.

3. Yes you can, and no there is no limit to how many apps you can put in a folder. You can also use different launchers or folder apps if you want to change the icon of the folder.

4. Yes you can download other tones

5. Google Maps does have turn by turn directions. There are also other navigation apps you can use.

The screen resolution on the new Android flagships are quite high. The SIII has a 306ppi screen density, so its almost indistinguishable from an iPhone unless you look so close that it already hurts the eyes. The Note II has a lower density at 267ppi, but it won't be that bad. Its still better than the iPad's resolution AFAIK. And no it won't be pixelated.

yes.. to all your questions.

your eyes and what you notice is diff from others... so screen pixilation is subjective.
the old samsung screen had issues because of the tech.
but the new Note2 uses a better screen tech to reduce is issue.
but before you make a move..i suggest you can put all 3 phone in front of your eyes at the same time. to compare: 4S, S3, Note2
