Help Apple iTunes doesn't write on SD card on Android

Dear experts,

I've got a 32 GB MicroSD card in my Samsung Galaxy S2 corporate phone running Android 4.2.2. I want to play the songs stored in the card by way of Apple iTunes running on my corporate Windows 7 PC.

I haven't been able to make iTunes create a library on the card while it is in the phone. However, when the card is in an USB adapter, iTunes does everything fine.

Curiously, with the card in the phone, Windows Explorer is able to read/write on it normally. iTunes is not.

Before someone asks: I'm not allowed to listen to music on the Windows PC with the card directly on the USB port, only via phone.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Marcelo

I suspect it's because iTunes doesn't support music libraries via MTP mode. If you got the microSD in a card reader it's directly accessible as a drive with an assigned drive letter. e.g. "E:", etc. and iTunes can work with that. But frankly I think Apple are expecting you to have one of their iOS devices for iTunes, rather than Android. Has your "corporate PC" got Windows Media Player, that supports MTP no problem.

Yeah, that´s for sure.

Well maybe I should give a try to Windows Media Player then.

Thank you for your attention. ;)

Just copy the music from the PC to the phone using Windows Explorer. Or put the card in a card reader, copy to it, put the card in the phone. Then use your favourite music player on the phone and forget about iTunes, WMP or whatever.

That's surely an option as well, Hadron. Indeed that's what I'm currently doing while not being able to sort this mess out.

Unfortunately, however, the phone's sound quality is pretty poor compared to the PC's. Even though Android has got a handy, efficient equalizer, it causes the volume to drop considerably as the phone's amplifier is very weak.

That's why I want to take advantage of a media player running on the PC -- if possible.

And, as I said, I'm not allowed to connect any external memory card to the PC due to the company's security policy. So, having the S2 connected to it is a workaround.

Best regards,

Marcelo

OK, then in that case it probably is worth trying Windows Media Player. The reason is that the phone is connecting via MTP, which is a Microsoft protocol, so you might hope that in a rational world the Microsoft media player would be able to handle this.

I'm not saying that will be the case - I've never tried it myself - but it sounds worth a go.

For the record:

Windows Media Player is not able to do the trick as well. It sees the files and creates the playlist, but doesn't play anything.

Neither VLC. It doesn't even open the folder with the songs, says that the folder name is not valid, no matter the name it gets (iTunes shows the same error message when trying to create a new library).

It must be something with Android (or the device, or the protocol, or whatever). The fact is it just doesn't work.

Sheesh!

WMP in Windows 10 plays music on the sd card of my S4 running 5.0.1 whilst connected as a media device. I did not create a play list, I just clicked on some random files

I don't use my phone to play music through the PC. Just tried it as an experiment.
