Root Apply update to .zip? Kernels?

How do I apply the update and how do I flash a kernel? I can't get any ROM cuz I can't apply the update.

None of that helped. Doesn't say anything about applying an update. The rom will boot up but then get stuck and boot all over again and exitrecovery doesn't fix it.

Are you trying to flash a custom rom using cwm? People often get 2 choices mixed up. I don't have my esteem here, but don't use the apply update choice. Use the one that says something like apply zip from sd card

It tells me to apply the update from the sd card or else it won't boot properly. I'm trying to get gingersteem 2.
