Apps and Memory

I don't really understand how memory works. I've tried moving apps to the SD card.

Today, my text messaging app stopped accepting texts. I looked under applications and it says I have 1.7 GB free and am using 495 MG (i assume that's good.)

I have a lot of old email. It is very tedious to delete on this phone (Blackberry allowed me to delete by date, not just individual message) However, I've been poking away at it and I've deleted almost every text message.

I don't understand the technical jargon so if you can help me, I would appreciate it.

So I deleted the cache in my email under Settings>Applications>Email and all three of my accounts disappeared.

Still no text messages.
