Help Apps and my data allowance? HELP!?

Eunna

Lurker
I just got a Sony Ericsson Xperia 10x and just started using android. When browsing the apps on android market it says full internet access required. And everytime I start using the apps I notice the 3g signal thing on my phone shows that I'm using the internet. I thought once the app is downloaded I should be able to use it without the app needing to connect to the internet?

Does this use my data allowance once I have downloaded the app. Say I'm playing a game I downloaded, would that use my data allowance?

Is there any [free] apps/games out there that doesn't require internet access while in use? Please give me a list if possible :(

Some apps will require a data connection for small things, such as in-app advertisements, or sharing information that helps with targeted advertising (such as location). These packets of data are tiny and not cause for alarm.

I agree they don't use that much data...a few bytes at most. I could download and play load of games with only 500mbs of data. What eats your data the most would defenitly be Youtube and Web browsing (15min on youtube can eat you 100mb or more with HD)

Some games and other apps say they use data....they do....for the small ads they display, but if you turn the data 3G off then it doesn't.

I suggest this to everyone. Turn the data connection off if you aren't using it. Put a widget on the homescreen or something and only turn it on if you want to use the internet. Then it won't download ads everytime you open a free ad-supported app.

Get an app called Watchdog 3G. You can set the amount of data that you dont want to go over, then you can set the alarm to alert you when you are getting close to your quota. I found it very helpful while I had a limited data plan of 200Mb, until I went to an unlimited plan.
