Apps cache on SD card

Hi all. Is there a way to stop apps storing data on my external SD card? I can see lots of posts relating to moving cache to the SD Card but nothing about stopping it. If there's no external SD then it obviously manages without so why when you put one in does it start putting data there?

These paths are what seem to have appeared:

/storage/extSdCard/Android/data

/storage/extSdCard/data

The reason I ask is that I've read sometimes the SD Card can cause lag.

Thanks

Those are stock file pathways that Android adds to any external SD card automatically. Your SD card would not be recognised by your phone or operate without them. As for lag, that depends on your class of SD card. Anything from class 6 to 10 should be fine providing you have a good, genuine, make of SD card and not some clone or cheap knock-off.

Ok thanks. I have a Samsung Class 10 card so hopefully all should be good. I just wondered why it happened. My S3 got very laggy but that could be age as much as the SD Card, I'll see how the S5 copes
