Apps close upon turning off phone

Hi,

I have an s8 Active fully updated Oreo. Every time I turn off my phone it closes the app that I just had open. So that when I go to turn it back on again I am back at the homescreen. This is driving me crazy. Please advise. Thank you.

Do you mean when you turn the screen off? I'll assume you do. I'm not familiar with the S8 active but it sounds like a task manager of some sort killing active processes when the screen is off.

Check your phones settings to look for a manager of some sorts. It could also be a buggy app that crashes when the screen goes off.

Tap the recent apps icon (the square icon) on the phone and tap the recently closed app.

It may still be running from where you left off.

Let us know if this helps...

OK, so I removed my Advanced Task Manger and that didn't help. I don't see a built in manager. If it's a buggy app, how do I determine which one it is? Thanks.

When I that button all I see are the apps available on my phone. How do find the recently closed app. Also, let's say I find it and the app is still running, how does that solve the problem? I would like to be able to have the app right there where it was after I turned the screen off. Please advise.

The most recent one will be the first on the list (does Oreo on the S8 use the old "rolodex" style list, or something else?).

I've never met this behaviour, so can only guess at the cause. I'd check your lock screen settings first (in Security or Privacy I'd guess: Samsung rearrange the menus, and I don't have an S8 so can't look up where things are), look for anything that might suggest unlocking to home screen. Failing that the launcher (home screen) settings. Failing that I don't know: there are settings in the developer options that might do this, but I can't imagine an update changing those (e.g. turning the "don't keep activities" setting on, or setting the background process limit stupidly low), and don't generally recommend fiddling with these unless you know what you are doing.
