Android Question

Hi, I have recently updated my Samsung galaxy S5 to android version 6.0.1. Since this update, I am no longer able to perform updates on many of my apps from the google play store using wifi. The apps can only be updated using the mobile data (of which I have very little, hence the use of wifi!). I have tried all of the following:
- Cleared the cache for google play, google play services, all of the wifi applications, the download manager, and all of the apps that won't update.
- Cleared the data from google play, google play services, and the download manager.
- Removed my google account and re-added it.
- 'Forgotten' the wifi and re-input all of the info.
- Reset the wifi router.
- Turned the phone on and off plus removing the battery.
- Tested the phone in safe mode.
- Performed a full factory reset.

Unfortunately none of the above things have worked and I am at the point where Samsung are telling me I will need to send the phone back. I would like to avoid that if possible, is there a fix for this that I have overlooked?

Many thanks

Well, you have had a fairly comprehensive go at fixing it!

I'm clutching at straws but have you:

disabled "smart network switch" in wifi settings and disabled mobile data?

What happens when you try to update using wifi? Any error message?

Which apps do update on wifi, is there anything in common about them?

My suspicion is that this may be a permissions issue. I assume that your wifi is working normally for other uses, browsing etc.

Thanks for your response.

I have disabled 'smart network switch' in the wifi settings as well as turning off the mobile data.

When trying to update the apps via wifi, it displays the downloading bar the scrolls across saying it is 'downloading' but it never moves from there and nothing ever downloads. It will stay like that for about 30 minutes then I get a message saying it couldn't be downloaded and in brackets says Error:495.

There are multiple apps affected from different developers - a few from Google Inc, a couple from Microsoft corp, one from Samsung Electronics Co, one from Samsung Asia, Spotify, a Meditation app etc.

Everything worked using the wifi on my phone up until I did the Android software upgrade to 6.0.1 last week. The wifi works fine for other users (the two other people with Samsung galaxy S5's like me have not done the software upgrade yet and now have decided not to!) and it also works fine on my laptop.

Thanks again for your response!

Hi again

This is a solution I found for error 495. You have done all these already I think, but maybe not in the right order. Its worth a try.

Delete your Google Play Store data in Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Store > Clear data.
Delete data from Google Services Framework as well - you need to press the ... at top right to show system apps as well to be able see this (note: this will assign a new Google ID to your device, as if you had factory reset it, your Google apps may temporarily act up afterward).

Delete your Google account on the device, reboot your phone and re-add your Google account in Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google Account.
