Help Apps eating all my data

I've had my pone a few months now. Last month it ate all my data and they charged me 50p a day. I thought I'd got everything switched off but it's doing the same this month too. My friends has the same phone/package and says the 500mb allowance is fine for him. Any idea how to see what's causing it, please?

There is no way I am aware of to tell exactly what is using the data. However given the problem I would advise doing this:

Main menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Untick Data Traffic.

This will disable all data other than Wi-Fi and then you simply turn it back on when you wish to use a data based service.
