Apps for Filmmakers

Can't think of any that are film-specific but there are certainly plenty of apps out there that would be useful for filmmakers. Of course, usefulness and relevance of those apps is highly subjective.

I use a few:

Celeste Lite (also a pay version):
Celeste Lite - Android app on AppBrain

I use this for mainly knowing where exactly the sun is in the sky, and where it WILL be throughout the day. Useful for cinematographers (I'm not one, though).

Because I'm a sound recordist, I use the full version of SpectralPro (also a free version):
SpectralPro Analyzer - Android app on AppBrain

This uses the mics on the phone to map frequencies it hears on the phone visually. You can set the sample rate it scans at amongst many other things. I was actually VERY impressed by how sensitive it is, it can sense the slightest noise, even if you can't hear it. Very useful for me on set when I'm recording room tone.

There are a couple apps that purport to be lightmeters. I tried one, but it didn't even register any reading at all, but got me an error message claiming "the lightmeter timed out"... Whatever that means.
To be sure: it was a beta, and the developer went to all sorts of pains during installation to disclaim any liability for the app not working. He was prescient.

But even if the software would work, I doubt whether a phone has a sensitive and sophisticated enough light sensor. The prerequisite hardware.
