Apps for toddlers?

Sak01

Android Expert
Could I get some recommendations for apps for kids aged 2-5, please?

I've got Zebra Paint and Kids Connect which have been a hit with the kids so far.

Be warned: You will be getting responses such as the ones in this thread - http://androidforums.com/android-applications/317157-app-stop-kids-dialling.html

(People suggesting you don't give your phone to your kid. They classify the act of letting your kids play with your phone\stuff, as "bad parenting")
Thanks for the heads up.

I don't mind the parenting advice as long as they recommend an app too ;) and besides, I'm just an uncle. Spoiling the kids is my raison d'etre

Man, people need to chill out. $10 says the people complaining in that thread don't even have kids.

Agreed, but I still must agree with those people - I am far from having kids, but my parents would PUNISH me if I EVER touched any of their stuff (and they still would). Which I think is good - it taught me not to feel entitled. However, the OP being an Uncle makes it an entirely different story\debate, lol

But just so I\we don't get this thread locked, here is an app suggestion:
Kids Mode: Kids Games + Videos looks pretty cool\fun

Zoodles....it's AWESOME...easily gets to you to stuff from StarFall and Nick Jr kids and you don't have to worry about them bumping buttons to exit the app.

Have fun!

That Zoodles looks perfect. Thanks people.

And I'm risking stoking the parenting fire but I can't resist; it's got a National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval and a Teacher's Choice Award lol.

:D
But you're acting like a grandparent?
Only if I stuff the phone inside a brownie and serve it to them with hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Raising small children this generation is a tad different than last generation, just like things were different for my parents than they were for my grandparents.

Anyways:

Toddler Lock is a good one, locks the screen with a black canvas that different colored shapes pop up if they touch it, and you can also doodle on it. Makes annoying sounds that are best turned off some times though :)

My 3 year old is really getting into Fruit Ninja if I sit with him and help him play. Kids always get a kick out of the Talking Tom Cat app as well, but I refuse to put it on my phone lol.

Youtubing monster trucks is always a hit as well with boys!

Thanks for the heads up.

Your job isn't to spoil them. Your job as an uncle is to give them soldering kits and frog dissection sets and other weird things that no parent will ever give their kids. :)

What my frens and even I (yes even as a developer) are looking for is kids are able to play "specific apps" but the moment they exit and try to play other apps they cannot.

Idea is I configure kids can only play A, B, C apps. Then I configure the rest they cannot play. Are there apps of this nature?

I saw some is they replace the default Home launcher which I do not want to. I wanted a app that can give what I want using the default Home launcher provided by Android.

Hi

The toddlers who have supervised access to my phone [on request, they never grab and understand "No means no" so the ethos of the grandparents is respected ;-) ] love:

Bubbles
Kid's Finger Paint
Kid's piano
Kids Shape Puzzle

Have fun

Got Talking Tom. I wouldn't mind it if it didn't take up so much memory.

In my defence, I trained the 5 year old to fly RC helicopters and RC BB tanks.

Try SmartLock Pro - seems to being the job

My daughter enjoys "draw n shake." Actually, I like it - allows me to relive fond childhood memories of an etch-a-shetch.

It should be pointed out that the list of advantages. Which parents can take from the list of the best kids educational apps is very long. It is difficult to consider all positive moments. As it is known, educational process of kids will be more effective if it is organized as an interesting game.

Thanks for the heads up.

Here's some avuncular advice:
Uncles aren't supposed to 'spoil' kids. They are 'supposed' to give them all kinds of weird educational things that parents and grandparents will never dream of giving them. Like, bug collections or that plastic dissect a frog toy that I found on store.discovery.com

My kid loves to repeat stuffs in this app. Thankfully he loves to play with it for hours and learnt a lot of preschool abc. Saved a lot of time for me.

Simple and beautiful, not any complex navigation which can be easily handled by kids.

Hi, Sak01! Try using PBS Kids. PBS KIDS video brings clips of some of the most popular PBS TV shows to iPad and iPhone. All of the video content is high quality and appropriate for children because it is directly from PBS children’s programming. The buttons are large and easy to use, especially for a toddler’s hands. Navigation is also simple enough for even young children to use. You can also try ALPHABET CAR. This is the best of both worlds for parents and kids alike. It’s a game that toddlers will love and it’s educational. You drive a school bus by tilting the device from side to side in order to capture letters and spell words. It’s a really nicely designed game that has a great user interface and really excellent graphics. Great for early learners, and fun even for those kids who are to young to read.
