Apps from GetJar

I installed BeautifulWidgets from GetJar. There's an update for it at the Market, but of course not available since I didn't purchase it there.

I haven't used GJ before. Do they provide updates for their apps?

...but it is odd that the market still wants money for it.

The question is: is it the same version I already got from there? That's why I'm asking if GJ updates their apps or if they offer them for free because they have older versions.

Edit: Ok, I got it and just installed over my existing one. It upped it from 4.02 to 4.03 and saved my settings. Cool. :thumbup:

From where I sit, that’s an unanswerable question, since you didn’t mention your version number and the getjar site says nothing about them.

Something sure seems odd about getjar giving all their stuff away -- did this just happen or did I just discover old news?

Getjar is legit. The delay in updates is a known drawback. Look at it as the "cost" of being free.

Getjar is legit. And its old news. Advertising and sponsored apps pay for the apps they are giving away for free (the devs get paid), and since its getting a lot of traffic, they earn a lot.

Anyway, yes Getjar does give updates, I've received an update or Beautiful Widgets from them once. But I must say they are slow on updates.
